Transportation promotes Son La tourism to "take off"

As a land rich in natural and cultural resources, in recent years, Son La province has implemented many synchronous solutions to develop tourism commensurate with its available potential. In particular, investing in the transportation network is the "key" to pave the way for tourism development.

Determining that transportation must be “one step ahead”, the province has focused on reviewing, establishing general planning, functional zoning, and detailed planning to build synchronous infrastructure. In particular, implementing the Project “Developing Son La province’s traffic infrastructure in a synchronous direction for the period 2026-2030”, the proposed traffic project categories aim to prioritize investment resources, create inter-regional, regional and intra-regional connections, serving the goals of socio -economic development and tourism development of the province...

In the period of 2021-2025, Son La province has focused resources on investing in key transport projects; upgrading provincial, district, urban and rural roads; completing the goal of hardening roads to commune centers; at the same time integrating resources from the National Target Programs on new rural construction, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Project 666... In addition, the province's transport system has made progress, with national highways such as: National Highway 6, National Highway 43, National Highway 279, National Highway 37... connecting Son La with neighboring provinces and the capital Hanoi .

Mr. Tran Xuan Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, commented: The transportation system in the province has been formed and distributed quite reasonably throughout the province, creating interconnection and connection to tourist areas and tourist attractions in the localities that the routes pass through. The transportation infrastructure has been gradually improved, contributing greatly to the implementation of socio-economic development goals and creating momentum for tourism development.

A section of National Highway 6B is under construction and upgrading.

Mr. Le Van Huu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association, assessed: Transport infrastructure is an important factor serving the development of the tourism industry. Through conferences and seminars, the business community operating in the tourism sector has expressed their wishes and aspirations for improving tourism infrastructure, especially transport, to help Son La tourism develop sustainably.

Currently, the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway Construction Investment Project has started and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2028. The provincial departments and branches are actively coordinating to complete the content and advise the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal of the "Project on socialization of investment and exploitation of Na San Airport" to submit to the Government and the Politburo. Continue to research and propose investment in a number of key transport projects such as upgrading the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway, the section in Son La province from 2 lanes to 4 lanes; investing in the Moc Chau - Son La city (old), Son La city (old) - Dien Bien expressway; the Son La - Yen Bai regional connecting route... These will be key, breakthrough projects, creating momentum for tourism development.

In addition, the province is developing plans to upgrade and renovate national highways; developing investment policies for provincial traffic projects. Localities in the province are promoting the implementation of the new rural construction program, gradually completing rural traffic infrastructure. Up to now, the whole province has 74/75 communes and wards with solid roads to the commune center, reaching a rate of 98.7%, serving the travel needs of the people and creating intra-regional connectivity for tourism development.

The internal road of Bon village, a community tourism village of Muong Chien commune, has been invested in and built spaciously.

It can be seen that investing in the transportation system is not only about building roads, but also creating a "bridge" between Son La and the outside world. Developing transportation will motivate businesses to invest, creating many high-quality tourism products, thereby promoting local economic development and improving people's lives. With attention and investment, especially the push from large transportation projects, a bright future will open up for the sustainable development of the tourism industry.
