The student shared kitchen of the Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University has just welcomed some special guests for a visit and lunch, namely Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University; Vice Directors including Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Vinh and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam. In addition, there are two Rectors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan and Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong.

Yesterday afternoon (July 2), after visiting and chatting with students eating at the Sharing Kitchen, Mr. Vu Hai Quan and the teachers in the delegation lined up, bought meals to experience, evaluate the quality of the meals and share with students in the dormitory.
The student shared kitchen was put into operation by the Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University from June 30, serving from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday every week.

Each meal here costs 25,000 VND. Poor students pay 15,000 VND, the Dormitory Management Center and the Ho Chi Minh City National University Urban Area support 10,000 VND. In addition, the kitchen serves students in need at 25,000 VND/meal. Diners who want to contribute can pay at a higher price via bank transfer, to support the price of meals for poor students, ensuring transparency.

Sharing with VietNamNet, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, said that the idea of a Student Sharing Kitchen was proposed by him in 2023. The meal will have 2 main dishes, a vegetable dish and soup, with dessert, rice and soup for free for disadvantaged students and students in need.

"I had lunch at the Student Sharing Kitchen and found it very good because I actually eat lunch at the student canteen every day for 35,000 VND. Yesterday, I had ribs and braised duck, which was very good. If the food and rice were hotter, it would be more delicious," Mr. Quan said jokingly that compared to when he went to school in 1992, the meal was much more sumptuous.
"When I was in school, students ate a plate of rice with ribs, and if they were hungry, they would buy three more bowls of rice to eat with fish sauce," he said.

Mr. Quan plans to visit the kitchen every week to eat with the students, and encourage teachers to come eat and contribute more.
The shared kitchen for students of Ho Chi Minh City National University is currently located on the ground floor of building C5, dormitory area B. The kitchen has an area of 273m², with an investment of more than 1 billion VND for renovation and equipment. The capacity is to serve about 500 meals per day.
