Early durian harvest in Dak Lak faces many challenges
The durian harvest in Dak Lak is starting with not very positive signs. Prolonged rain has significantly affected the quality of durian, leading to a situation where the pulp is hard, uneven and has a high water content. This directly reduces the purchase price from traders, which has been flexibly adjusted according to the quality of each batch.
Notably, the main durian varieties such as Musangking and Ri6 are being harvested, but the purchasing power in the market is quite quiet. The main reason is said to be that the quality of this year's durian is not up to expectations compared to previous crops.
In the context of the Chinese market, a major import partner, tightening quality regulations, especially controlling Cadmium residue and O-yellow substance, ensuring product standards is more urgent than ever.
To protect farmers’ interests and maintain the reputation of Dak Lak durian, the Dak Lak Durian Association has issued recommendations. Accordingly, people are advised not to sell young durians that have not yet reached optimal ripeness. This not only helps avoid the risk of being forced to lower prices but also contributes to maintaining the reputation of local agricultural products.
