While phone manufacturers have been using lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for decades, recent rumors suggest that Samsung could switch to new battery technology for the Galaxy S26 series due to launch in 2026.

Lithium-ion batteries have been the default solution for phone makers since before the advent of smartphones. However, battery makers are developing new technologies, including silicon-carbon batteries.

Leaker Ice Universe revealed: the Galaxy S26 series will be powered by this new silicon-carbon battery technology, which promises to bring many impressive improvements. Silicon-carbon technology stores energy in silicon-carbon instead of rare elements such as cobalt, lithium and nickel, which are difficult to mine and the process is very harmful to the environment. This can bring great benefits to the environment.

This technology helps improve battery life for the Galaxy S26 series while also contributing to increased safety features due to a lower risk of overheating.

Previously, it was reported that Samsung could bring back the high-end Exynos chip on the Galaxy S26 series instead of just using Qualcomm chipsets on the Galaxy S25 series. That means we could see the Galaxy S26 series appear with two different chip variants, depending on the market they land in.
