Arriving at the top of Mau Son in late June, before our eyes was a beautiful scene, hydrangeas competing to show off their bright colors, in the distance was the station's broadcasting tower hidden in the clouds.
Pouring a cup of tea to treat guests, Mr. La Bao Vu, Head of the Broadcasting Team, 10KW Mau Son FM Radio Station, shared: I have been in this profession for 20 years. At an altitude of nearly 1,500m above sea level, the broadcasting station is foggy all year round and in winter, there is often frost. Despite the harshness, every day, we ensure the management, operation, and supervision of transmission equipment, antennas, broadcasting stations, etc. Currently, the station has a total of 4 technicians. Due to the nature of the work, we work in shifts, 2 people/shift, 6 hours per shift, on duty 24/24 hours, working on weekends and holidays. Unlike technicians at other radio stations, each technician here is on duty for 10 consecutive days and then takes a break, taking turns like that to ensure the system is not interrupted, especially during holidays, Tet or important events of the province. Although we have to live far from our families and have many difficulties in life, we always try our best with all our sense of responsibility and love for the job to complete our tasks.
It can be said that transmission and broadcasting technicians require a high sense of responsibility and love for the job so that radio waves reach the public accurately every minute and every second, ensuring that no incidents occur leading to signal loss during broadcasting. Unlike Mr. Vu - who has worked for many years at the station, Mr. Le Quang Huyen has just started working at the 10KW Mau Son FM Radio and Broadcasting Station since March 2025. Taking us on a tour of the machine room area, Mr. Huyen shared: In the first days at the station, I had a hard time getting used to the work of staying up late and waking up early, but gradually I got into the routine. The brothers here consider each other as family members, whoever is about to be on duty will proactively go to the market early to bring enough food for the whole week or take advantage of the other person's work to cook and do the laundry. However, the thing that the brothers worry about most is the lack of water for daily use in the dry season and the lightning strikes that cause signal interference and loss in the rainy season. For us, any abnormality, even a small fluctuation in frequency or a slight crackle in the sound, must be detected and handled promptly.
Rain or shine, winter or summer, technicians at the station take turns to continuously broadcast the channels of the Voice of Vietnam ; ethnic language programs and radio programs of the Provincial Newspaper and Radio and Television Station.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Nhanh, An Son commune, Van Quan district shared: I often listen to Tay and Nung language radio programs of the Provincial Newspaper and Radio and Television Station via radio waves. Although today I have a TV and a smartphone, I still listen to the radio because I can easily update information even when working in the fields. In particular, on the radio, there are music programs that are both familiar and imbued with the national cultural identity, so we really like to listen to them.
Mr. Tran Vu Anh, Head of Technical - Technology Department, Newspaper and Provincial Radio and Television Station commented: The team of technicians at the 10KW Mau Son FM Broadcasting Station are experts in their profession and expertise, highly appreciated by the Voice of Vietnam. Not only promoting their expertise well, excellently completing assigned tasks, over the years, the team of technicians at the station has always strived, overcome all difficulties, and kept the information waves operating smoothly.
Saying goodbye to the information “wave guards”, saying goodbye to the majestic Mau Son peak, we always appreciate the technical staff at the 10KW Mau Son FM Broadcasting Station who are working tirelessly day and night, keeping the waves reaching far and wide in a timely, accurate and stable manner in the most extreme weather conditions. The work is not glamorous but has great significance, contributing significantly to the propaganda work, bringing the Party’s guidelines and policies, the State’s policies and laws to the people, especially ethnic minorities in remote areas.
