In recent years, the number of candidates applying to social sciences and humanities at many universities has been decreasing.
This year, the sudden announcement by some universities to stop enrolling students in group C00 (including Literature, History, Geography) right before the high school graduation exam has made the public even more worried. Although after The Ministry of Education and Training has made corrections, and many schools have canceled the above decision, but the incident partly shows that social sciences are being underestimated.
Many parents and students tend to pursue majors that are easy to find a job after graduation and have high incomes, such as technology, engineering, finance, marketing, medicine, pharmacy, etc. However, fewer and fewer people choose majors such as philosophy, history, literature, and languages because it is very difficult to find a job after graduation, and if they do find a job, their income is lower than the average. This not only creates a paradox of training and market demand, leading to an imbalance in human resource development, but in the long run, it also affects the cultural and social foundation of the country.
It must be clearly affirmed that the social sciences and humanities sector plays a very important role in the sustainable development of the country because it contributes to creating fundamental values of ethics, ideology, politics , history, and culture. Therefore, there needs to be a strong change in the perception of the whole society. To do so, the State needs to have strategic decisions, issue mechanisms and policies to attract qualified students to study this sector, support job search and referral so that graduates can work with peace of mind and contribute. Schools must also actively innovate training programs, increase practical skills, and connect more closely with the labor market. Only then can the social sciences and humanities sector maintain its worthy position, making an important contribution to the sustainable, balanced, and civilized development of society.
