The Young World Experimental Theater of the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City is rehearsing the play Hon Tho Ngoc, a play staged in memory of playwright Le Duy Hanh.

According to plan, the play Soul of Jade Poetry will premiere on September 6 at Tran Huu Trang Opera House to commemorate author Le Duy Hanh exactly 2 years after his passing.

Director Le Nguyen Dat shared with Tuoi Tre Online The poem "The Soul of Jade Poetry" was adapted into a reformed opera by author Le Duy Hanh's son, Le Hoang Long.

This is the script that he once met, consulted and discussed with author Le Duy Hanh when he was still alive.

However, due to some projects, Le Nguyen Dat has only now been able to start it, and he considers it a meaningful gift to commemorate the author he respects.

The script "Hon Tho Ngoc" is chosen by many cai luong actors to participate in talent competitions because it has a lot of room for them to exploit and show off their abilities.

"Previously, people usually only took the last chapter of the play to stage. This time, we made the entire play with all three chapters, so it is considered a rare opportunity for everyone to watch the entire "Ngoc Tho Hon" by author Le Duy Hanh" - director Le Nguyen Dat emphasized.

Que Tran, Kim Tieu Long, Binh Tinh... remember author Le Duy Hanh

September 6 is not only the premiere night of Soul of Jade Poetry , but the organizers also hold a series of programs to remember author Le Duy Hanh.

The afternoon of the same day was the launch of the book Soul of Jade Poetry , including the script Soul of Jade Poetry and several other outstanding works by Mr. Le Duy Hanh.

This is the passion of author Le Duy Hanh's family, collecting the author's good scripts into a book as valuable and accurate documents for professionals and future generations. Director Le Nguyen Dat also launched the book Southern Cai Luong Art at this event.

Next is the art program on the evening of September 6 at Tran Huu Trang Theater. The program will feature many artists who love and respect author Le Duy Hanh such as Que Tran, Vu Luan, Kim Tieu Long, Le Trung Thao, Tam Tam, Dien Trung, Le Thanh Thao... They will sing traditional songs written by Mr. Hanh such as Mien nho, Loi ru, Do oi ...

After this program, the highlight is the play Soul of Jade Poetry . The director staged this play in an experimental format to prepare for the 2025 International Experimental Theatre Festival in Ninh Binh this coming November.

Because of its experimental nature, the play is only about 70 or 80 minutes long. Artist Binh Tinh will play the role of Princess Ngoc Han.

Explaining the concern that people often only know Binh Tinh as strong in martial arts, Mr. Le Nguyen Dat said: "Actually, Binh Tinh also tried his hand at acting with the character Tong Thi Quyen in the play Royal Power .

This time is considered another new challenge for me. Besides, Hon Tho Ngoc is the story of Ngoc Han being chased, holding a small child and bending on the back of Quang Trung Nguyen Hue's soul when outside the forbidden palace, the capital, so it really needs a good dancer to portray the character on the road of wandering."

In the play, Binh Tinh will perform with 50 other actors. Mr. Dat believes that this is also an experiment, combining music and a new performance style, he hopes to create conditions for young artists to commit, bring something new and hopefully be accepted by the audience.

After the show on September 6, the crew will listen to feedback and gradually improve and edit so that by the festival day, they will have the best version.
