Welcoming Binh Duong, the home team needed to gain points to quickly secure a place in the Top 8, so coach Thach Bao Khanh fielded his strongest lineup, notably Hoang Duc, who was present from the start of the match, further solidifying the midfield. In the first 25 minutes of the match, goalkeeper Minh Toan worked quite hard and had to make at least two saves for the away team.

In the 24th minute, the home team took the lead thanks to a controversial decision by referee Ngoc Nho. The referee determined that Truong Tien Anh's cross hit Truong Du Dat's hand. But slow-motion replays showed that Binh Duong players' reactions were correct, as if they had been unfairly awarded a penalty. From the penalty spot, Duc Chien easily defeated Minh Toan, opening the score for Viettel .

Viettel players kept the attacking momentum but could not score any more goals in the first half. At the end of the first half, the away team punished with an equalizer 1-1 from Quang Hung who took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Van Phong. Quang Hung could not hold back his tears of emotion when he scored his first goal after 9 years of disciplinary action.

The match returned to the starting line and made the second half even more exciting. In a balanced match, in the 64th minute, the home team unexpectedly scored the second goal after Duc Chien scored from goalkeeper Van Toan's unsuccessful block. As the match progressed, Binh Duong pushed up their attacking formation in the hope of finding an equalizer. Tien Linh was sent onto the field in the 77th minute, and despite playing with 3 strikers, the away team still could not score another goal, and had to accept leaving Hang Day Stadium without any points.

With the above result, Viettel became the 4th team to be sure of staying in the league before round 13 after CAHN, Thanh Hoa and Hanoi FC.
