Watermelon only 5,000 VND/kg

Previously, watermelon was often sold at a fairly high price, ranging from 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg. However, currently, this fruit is being sold all over the sidewalks at a super cheap price of only 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, making it easy for people to buy and enjoy on hot days.

According to the reporter of Cong Thuong Newspaper, on the sidewalks along streets such as Ho Tung Mau, Cau Dien, Road 32, Le Van Luong, To Huu ( Hanoi )... watermelons are sold at cheap prices, attracting people to buy.

Vendors not only offer cheap prices but also guarantee the quality of fresh, delicious, and juicy fruit.

Ms. Ho Thi Ly, a sidewalk vendor on Ho Tung Mau Street (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) said: “ Since the beginning of this year, there has never been a time when watermelon prices have “collapsed” like now. Ripe watermelons with dark green skin, full and juicy are only priced at 10,000 VND/kg, while slightly worse-looking watermelons are priced at 8,000 VND/kg.

The weather has been hot these past few days, so the demand for watermelon has increased sharply. Many people come here to cool off, make smoothies or juices, which helps me sell very well. With 100kg of watermelon, I can sell it from morning to night and it will be sold out .”

Also selling watermelons on the sidewalk of Minh Khai market (Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi), Mr. Duc Thuan said: “ My watermelons are imported from container trucks from the Western provinces, so the quality of the watermelons is very guaranteed. Consumers can buy the whole fruit, if it is not delicious, they can return it. The retail price is 8,000 VND/kg, but if customers buy a combo of 10kg or more, I sell the wholesale price at only 6,000 VND/kg .”

When asked why the price is so "super cheap", Mr. Thuan said that sellers like him do not have to pay for premises, the source of imported goods is abundant and available, the importer is ready to exchange or return, and the depreciation cost is compensated to help reduce the cost.

Watermelon is now not only sold on sidewalks but also appears everywhere on social networks, helping consumers easily buy the product at preferential prices. Advertising posts about fresh, cheap watermelon are constantly shared, accompanied by attractive images, attracting the attention of many people.

On Facebook, many "online merchants" are ready to launch attractive promotional packages such as "buy a 10kg combo for only 6,000 VND/kg and buy 15kg or more for 5,000 VND, free shipping", and advertising slogans such as "cheap as a gift" or "buy watermelon at a super good price, impeccable quality, guaranteed return" also help watermelon become a hot commodity this summer.

People are willing to "pay"

The fierce competition between small traders and online sales channels has made the watermelon market more bustling than ever. Whether buying directly on the sidewalk or through social networking platforms, people can easily find watermelons at reasonable prices and with favorable return policies.

In particular, many people take advantage of this time to buy in large quantities, not only to eat directly but also to process into cool juices, ideal for hot days.

Ms. Le Thi Thu Ha, a customer who bought watermelon at Minh Khai market (Nam Tu Liem district) said that each time she bought 2 fruits of about 6-7kg, the price was super cheap, a 3kg watermelon was only worth 2 cups of sugarcane juice. “ On hot days, my children are on summer vacation, so watermelon juice is an ideal choice for my family, it is both cool and provides enough water for the body. To enhance the flavor, I sometimes blend watermelon with yogurt or condensed milk to make a smoothie. In addition, watermelon salad mixed with cucumber, tomato, and coriander also creates a refreshing dinner ,” Ms. Ha said.

In addition, watermelon can also be designed into desserts such as watermelon ice cream, when watermelon is pureed and frozen, providing a cool sweet treat, suitable for hot days.

Not only does it have a price advantage, watermelon is also a source of many nutrients that are beneficial to health. Therefore, this fruit becomes more popular and preferred than ever in the summer.

Speaking to reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, former lecturer at the Institute of Food Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that watermelon is a healthy fruit. “The water and fiber in watermelon help provide energy, prevent dehydration on summer days, and improve digestion.

In addition, this fruit also contains many nutrients, including essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C and A, which help strengthen the immune system and maintain a healthy body. Watermelon is also a source of antioxidants, which help beautify the skin, keeping the skin youthful and healthy on hot days.

With its outstanding health benefits and excellent cooling ability, watermelon deserves to be the top choice for the summer.
