Once a fisherman who has spent his whole life with the sea, Mr. Nguyen Cong Chon in Ly Son special zone did not think that one day he would do tourism . However, since 2016, he boldly changed direction to open a homestay at home with 05 rooms, serving 30-35 tourists per day. Although he started late at the age of nearly 70, with the simplicity, friendliness and hospitality of Ly Son people, Chu Chon Homestay is increasingly chosen by many tourists. Thanks to that, his family has a stable income, life has improved significantly. He is one of nearly 120 households on the island that are doing tourism effectively.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Chon, in Ly Son special zone, Quang Ngai province, said: “ What I do is based on my reputation. Here, my specialty attracts customers, especially because I have a profession of cooking that suits the tastes of all three regions. People who eat here give a lot of reviews online. I have gone through tourism courses, so I am happy to please customers when they come and satisfy customers when they leave. The first point is how to communicate so that people remember and love me. ”
Implementing the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, Ly Son has identified tourism as a key economic sector, creating a driving force for local socio-economic development. One of the clear marks is the shift in economic structure towards gradually increasing the proportion of trade - services - tourism, currently accounting for nearly 42%. This shows positive changes in the economic picture of Ly Son, with a sustainable development orientation based on the potential of sea and island tourism. On average, each year, this place welcomes about 200,000 visitors to visit and relax. Affirming the growing attraction of Ly Son on the Central tourism map.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ly Son Special Zone, Quang Ngai Province, said: “ The task of the entire political system and the people on the island must really get involved in building and developing that is to form a way of thinking about tourism, a service mindset, taking tourists as the center of service, changing from words, language to service style, behavior towards tourists as well as converting products into forms of serving tourists. Specifically, instead of just growing garlic for agricultural products, today, growing garlic and onions not only produces agricultural products, but also provides products for tourism. So that tourists can visit and experience. And your products become specialty products. ”
If Ly Son is known for its garlic and seafood products, Mang Den plateau is famous for its fresh, cool climate, very suitable for resort tourism and health care. The province has had many drastic directions to develop Mang Den tourism in conjunction with the general planning of Mang Den Tourist Area approved by the Prime Minister at the end of 2023. Specifically, Mang Den needs to take full advantage of and exploit the potential and advantages of eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, agricultural tourism, and community tourism.
Along with the development of inter-regional transport networks such as Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 24, in the future, the Quang Ngai-Kon Tum Expressway and Mang Den Airport will be built, creating momentum for Mang Den tourism to develop. Not only that, currently, many businesses and investors have laid the first bricks to contribute to the development of tourism infrastructure and professionalization of tourism activities in the area. Thanks to that, the number of tourists to Mang Den is increasing. In the first 7 months of the year alone, Mang Den Tourist Area welcomed over 1 million visitors.
Mr. Phan Van Dong, manager of Mang Diang Bouitque Hotel, shared: “ Investors investing in Mang Den also help people and especially me, my family to have jobs and create income for people in Mang Den. Investors are also developing models in Mang Den. Especially, they are also developing in the direction of planning each cluster such as some roads are also planning hotels. Some roads are developing food and resort. It will help Mang Den and Mang Den Tourist Area to be more orderly and especially keep the wildness, the environment and climate are not affected too much compared to the current architecture. ”
With strategic orientations and the synchronous participation of Party committees, authorities, businesses and people, Quang Ngai tourism is gradually transforming strongly. Effectively exploiting the potential of two contrasting but attractive lands, Mang Den of the great forest and Ly Son in the middle of the ocean, not only opens up new opportunities for the tourism industry, but also creates a driving force to promote socio-economic development and improve people's lives. A journey linking the highlands and the islands is being formed, making Quang Ngai an attractive and unique destination on the tourism map of the Central region and the whole country.
