Dong Thap: Applying technology to contribute to sustainable poverty reduction for women

Implementing the National Target Program (NTP) on sustainable poverty reduction for the 2021-2025 period, Dong Thap has achieved impressive results, not only reducing the poverty rate but also creating new opportunities for people to escape poverty, build a stable life and develop sustainably.

Specifically, from 2021 to present, the province has supported nearly 45,500 poor households, near-poor households and households that have just escaped poverty. Of which, more than VND 2,000 billion has been disbursed to poor households, creating conditions to help them improve their income. At the same time, nearly 330,000 health insurance cards have been issued to poor and near-poor households, helping them access medical services at low cost.

In addition, women are a group of subjects that the province pays special attention to, when implementing and deploying many plans and tasks, integrating content to support women in economic development, sustainable poverty reduction, and deploying to all levels of the Women's Union in the province.

In order to develop the economy and raise awareness of digital technology, reduce information poverty for women, the Provincial Women's Union has actively implemented the 2024 task with the theme " Enhancing the application of information technology in Union activities", according to the local digital transformation project.

Accordingly, proactively propose to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade, State Bank of Vietnam Dong Thap branch to issue a coordination plan on support localities to organize cashless market models (KDTM), At the same time, issue an Official Dispatch on the implementation of the Coordination Plan on Supporting localities in organizing e-commerce market models, deploying the Association at all levels to coordinate in implementing the model.

The Women's Union of districts and cities advises the People's Committees at the same level to issue a plan to deploy the e-commerce market model in shopping centers and market locations at the grassroots level. Thereby, introducing and guiding e-commerce payment methods to small traders and people and installing QR codes. The People's Committees at the district level have issued a plan to implement this model, including the districts of Chau Thanh, Thap Muoi, Lap Vo, Lai Vung and Sa Dec city.

At the same time, the Association at all levels continues to mobilize stores and businesses to proactively guide people when participating in consumer shopping at the market, giving priority to the use of non-cash payment methods, thereby helping people understand the benefits of making non-cash payments, the safety of applying digital technology to actively participate, bringing efficiency to sellers and buyers.

In addition, in 2024, the Provincial Women's Union organized 4 training courses to improve the capacity to apply digital technology in accessing financial and savings services, aiming to reduce the use of cash for 200 female farmers, cooperatives, cooperative groups, production and business establishments participating in Cao Lanh, Thap Muoi, Lai Vung districts and Cao Lanh city.

Through that, women are informed about credit policies; policies and guidelines on cashless payments; warnings in payment activities, measures to prevent fraud; instructions on using cashless payment apps, scanning codes; VNPT CHECK - Anti-counterfeit electronic stamps with QR codes to authenticate the origin of goods...

Through training courses to help women members better understand digital technology applications in accessing financial services, aiming towards cashless.
