The New York Times article on the evening of November 11 quoted three sources saying that the decision was not final, but President-elect Donald Trump appeared to have chosen Mr. Rubio, a loyalist who was not selected as a vice presidential candidate, to be Secretary of State for the upcoming administration.

Over the past week, Mr. Rubio has been repeatedly named as one of the leading candidates for the foreign affairs leadership position, along with former US Ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell.

Asked if he was destined for a senior cabinet job, Mr Rubio replied: "I've always wanted to serve this country."

The nomination of the hard-line senator would mark a notable turning point in Mr Rubio’s relationship with the future US president. In 2016, when the two were competing for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr Rubio was a fierce critic of Mr Trump.

While in the US, President-elect Donald Trump is gradually forming a power apparatus to run the country for the next four years, in a close ally in Northeast Asia, South Korea, predictions about Washington's foreign policy are also being considered.

Yonhap news agency quoted South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul as saying that the "Trump 2.0" administration's foreign policy orientation of increasing security contributions from allies "closely aligns" with Seoul's vision as a key global nation.

Speaking at a press conference in Seoul on November 12, Mr. Cho emphasized that the Korea-US alliance will continue to be strengthened during Mr. Trump's second term and that the Indo- Pacific strategy initiated by the Trump administration is similar to the foreign policy of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

South Korea's foreign ministry said it will strengthen policy coordination with Washington, especially amid growing security and economic challenges, including North Korea's military deployment to support Russia in the Ukraine conflict.

However, Prime Minister Han Duck Soo also asked South Korean authorities to come up with effective measures to prepare for potential policy changes in the United States under President-elect Donald Trump in foreign affairs, security, trade and industry.

He also urged the cabinet to continue promoting cooperation with the US in advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced biotechnology and quantum technology.

Prime Minister Han Duck Soo stressed, "The government will make efforts to strengthen the solid Korea-U.S. alliance with the new U.S. administration, while protecting national security and interests," and pledged to actively support Korean businesses overseas.
