Philippine women's team helpless
After losing to the Myanmar women's team in the first round, the Australian women's team was forced to win to keep their hopes of advancing alive. This was the motivation for coach Joseph Palasides' students to play well in the confrontation with the Philippines women's team, who were leading Group B before the second round.
In the first half, the Australian women's team completely dominated the game. They held the ball for 75% of the time and had 4 shots. Meanwhile, the Philippine women's team mainly played defensively. However, they still caused many difficulties for the Australian women's team when they played with determination and resilience.
It wasn't until the 45+1 minute that the Australian women's team opened the scoring. Alana Jancevski dribbled powerfully and then unleashed a dangerous left-footed shot, forcing goalkeeper Olivia to pick the ball out of the net for the first time in this tournament.
In the second half, the game did not change much. However, the difference from the first half was that no goals were scored. The score of 1-0 was maintained by the Australian women's team until the end of the match.

It is not clear who will be eliminated.
This result makes the situation in Group B much more complicated. The Myanmar women's team temporarily leads with 6 points. Before that, they won 3-0 against the Timor Leste women's team. The two teams following them are the Philippines women's team and the Australia women's team. They have the same 3 points, the Philippines women's team temporarily ranks above thanks to a better goal difference (+6 compared to 0).
In the final round, the Australian women's team will face the Timor Leste women's team. The Philippines women's team will face Myanmar. In the event that the Australian women's team and the Philippines women's team both win (which is likely to happen because they are rated higher than their opponents), Group B will have 3 teams with 6 points. The rankings will then be based on goal difference in the head-to-head matches of the 3 leading teams.
The two matches in the final round of Group B will take place at the same time at 7:30 p.m. on August 13.
