- In recent years, the Party Committee and government of Thien Hoa commune, Binh Gia district have promoted and mobilized people to promote their potential and strengths to develop production models, increase income, and sustainably reduce poverty. Thanks to that, Thien Hoa commune was recently honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" for the period 2021 - 2024.
Thien Hoa Commune is located 35 km from the center of Binh Gia district, the whole commune has 7 villages, with 761 households, 3,343 people. In recent years, in order for people to promote their internal strength and develop the economy , the Party Committee and the commune government have actively promoted and mobilized people to exploit the potential and strengths of agricultural and forestry development. In particular, with the advantage of a large area of forestry land (accounting for nearly 80% of the natural land area), the commune focuses on promoting people to develop the hill forest economy. Up to now, the total area of planted forests in the commune is nearly 500 hectares (mainly acacia, fat, cinnamon), the whole commune has over 500 households planting forests.
Mr. Trieu Van La, Na Leng village shared: With the guidance of the commune government, in 2012, my family cleared the hill to plant cinnamon trees. During the process of planting and caring for cinnamon trees, I attended training courses on science and technology transfer organized by the commune to apply to production, so my family's cinnamon area developed well. My family has proactively expanded the cinnamon area every year. Up to now, my family has planted over 10,000 cinnamon trees. In 2024, my family earned over 100 million VND from exploiting cinnamon bark. In addition, in 2016, my family was given the opportunity to borrow 50 million VND from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to plant 2 hectares of acacia. In 2023, my family exploited the acacia area and brought in an income of 140 million VND. With the income from afforestation, by the end of 2024, my family escaped poverty and paid off all bank debts.
Not only Mr. La's family, in recent times, many households in the commune have also risen out of poverty and become rich from developing the hill and forest economy. In order for people to have knowledge and experience to apply in production, every year, the Commune People's Committee has coordinated with the district's professional agencies to organize 2-3 training courses on transferring science and technology in livestock and crop farming (including afforestation). In addition, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed organizations and unions to receive loan capital entrustment with the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to support people in accessing preferential capital to invest and develop production. Up to now, the total outstanding loan program in the commune is 33 billion VND, with 465 households borrowing.
Mr. Ma Van Tan, Vice Chairman of Thien Hoa Commune People's Committee, said: Along with developing the hill and forest economy, the commune also focuses on propagating and mobilizing people to develop livestock models such as chickens, pigs, cows, etc. In addition, to create livelihoods for poor and near-poor households, the Party Committee and the commune government have flexibly used support resources from national target programs to support people in developing production. Specifically, from 2021 to present, implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, the whole commune has had 123 poor and near-poor households supported with over 272,000 acacia seedlings, with a total cost of 604 million VND; 7 households were supported with 3,010 hybrid chickens and 18 tons of animal feed, with a total cost of over 405 million VND.
Thanks to the attention and support of the Party Committee and the government, together with the proactiveness and positivity of the people, currently, the commune has a number of effective economic models such as: forest planting model (500 hectares); poultry farming model (over 24,000 heads); livestock farming model (over 800 heads)... By exploiting the potential and strengths of the locality in economic development, it has significantly contributed to reducing the poverty rate of the commune over the years. By the end of 2024, the poverty rate of the commune will be 6.31%, down 11.69% compared to 2021.
Ms. Hoang Thi Anh, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: In recent years, the Party Committee and the government of Thien Hoa commune have paid attention to and effectively implemented policies, programs and projects on poverty reduction. In particular, the commune has always focused on exploiting the potential and strengths of the locality to support people in economic development, especially the hill and forest economy. Along with the attention of the commune government, the people have also been proactive, making efforts and striving to develop the economy, thereby contributing positively to the poverty reduction work of the commune in particular and the district in general.
It can be seen that with the efforts in implementing poverty reduction work, the lives of people in Thien Hoa commune have been significantly improved, thereby contributing positively to the socio-economic development and new rural construction of the commune.
