The above data was just announced by Kaspersky Security Company on December 12, about the situation of cyber threats from the web targeting businesses in the Southeast Asia region.

Web threats, also known as cyber threats, are a type of cybersecurity risk that can cause unwanted incidents via the Internet.

These threats can originate from vulnerabilities of end users, developers, web service operators, or the web services themselves. Regardless of the cause or purpose, web threats can cause damage to both individuals and organizations.

In the first half of 2024, Kaspersky security solutions detected and blocked more than 26 million web threats targeting businesses in Southeast Asia. In other words, businesses in Southeast Asia faced an average of 146,944 cyberattacks every day.

Malaysia topped the list of countries most attacked by cyberattacks in the region, with 19,615,255 web threats in the first six months of the year. Indonesia came in second with 3,204,294 threats.

Vietnam and Thailand ranked lower in the regional rankings, with a total of 1,445,452 and 1,057,732 web attacks, respectively. Meanwhile, the total number of threats recorded in the Philippines was 846,837 and in Singapore was 574,292.

Rapid digitalization brings cybersecurity risks

Mr. Yeo Siang Tiong - General Manager of Kaspersky Southeast Asia - commented: "The acceleration of digitalization by businesses and governments in the region to promote economic growth has increased dependence on digital platforms, thereby creating many loopholes for bad guys to attack.

This creates an environment for cybercriminals to actively exploit security vulnerabilities, causing serious impacts on supply chains, financial institutions and critical infrastructure such as healthcare and energy. These incidents can reduce operational efficiency, cause financial losses and reduce trust in digital systems.”
