(Dan Tri) - Although highly rated, Novak Djokovic lost to Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 Brisbane International 2025 tournament held in Australia on the evening of January 3.

Opelka was once ranked in the world's top 20 but was plagued by injuries in 2024. The American made a good start at the 2025 Brisbane International with convincing wins and continued his momentum when facing Djokovic.

In the first set, the two players fought back and thanks to their better physical condition, Reilly Opelka won 7-6. In the second set, Opelka continued to show stability while Djokovic continuously missed the ball and the American player won easily 6-3.

Losing to Reilly Opelka, Novak Djokovic stopped in the quarterfinals of Brisbane International 2025. The Serbian tennis player missed the opportunity to win the 100th ATP title of his career and had poor preparation before the Australian Open taking place from January 12 to January 26.

By defeating Djokovic, Reilly Opelka will face French player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the semi-finals at 5:30 p.m. on January 4.

Second seed Dimitrov faced host Australia's Thompson. In the first set, the Bulgarian star won 6-1 and in the second set, Thompson was injured and had to retire when he was trailing 1-2. Dimitrov easily advanced to the semi-finals to meet Czech player Lehecka at 12pm on January 4.
