Officials and employees of units and businesses cycle for the environment and promote Hue destination

The movement is just at... the beginning.

One day on Tam Giang lagoon, a group of nearly 30 tourists on the tour "Reducing plastic waste cuisine - Green Chuon Lagoon" organized by Hue College of Tourism and travel agencies had interesting experiences. Disposable plastic bottles were not used, and visitors were encouraged to bring their own water bottles and could get water at the points the group guided. One of the things that many tourists were satisfied with was the activity of going to the market and buying seafood from the lagoon, then preparing food without using plastic bags. From that trip, the organizers, businesses and tourists all spread a green message: Joining hands to reduce plastic waste.

Up to now, Hue City has 4 tourist destinations that reduce plastic waste, including: Thuy Xuan tourism, Thanh Toan tile bridge community tourism, Thanh Thuy ward; community tourism in Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc, Dan Dien commune; Chuon lagoon tourism, My Thuong ward. People working in tourism are committed to changing their habits, switching to environmentally friendly materials and utensils.

In addition to efforts to reduce plastic waste, the tourism industry and its units are also organizing many activities to promote propaganda, create habits and call for the participation of tourism businesses, people and tourists in protecting the environment. One of the easily recognizable and highly appreciated features by tourists is the electric bicycle service. This is considered one of the innovations in developing green tourism in Hue. These bicycles operate smoothly, are environmentally friendly, do not make noise, reduce emissions, and are suitable for the ancient and peaceful space and landscape in Hue.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram, Director of the Department of Tourism, said that compared to the previous period, Hue is gradually affirming its pioneering role in the trend of green tourism and plastic waste-free tourism. Gradually, more and more businesses, establishments, and tourism workers are committed to reducing plastic, building green tourism products, and aiming to protect the environment.

According to tourism experts, the above results are a welcome change for Hue tourism. However, that is only the initial movement. Determining the brand position means understanding the thoughts of potential markets about "Hue destination" and ensuring that Hue has a positive position in the eyes of tourists compared to other places. This is also ensuring what "Hue destination" is, Hue's strengths and what makes Hue special compared to other destinations. For Hue to emerge as a vivid example of green, responsible and quality tourism, it will require a long-term and sustainable journey with the participation and cooperation of everyone.

Community responsibility

The current advantage of Hue tourism is that the natural landscape is almost still pristine green, with trees covering everywhere. This demonstrates the responsibility of the local government and many generations of Hue people in nurturing and protecting the green natural environment. In many other places, the "hot growth" and the brutal intervention of the industrialization and modernization process have led to the destruction of the natural landscape.

Although the Hue destination brand - Green Tourism has been shaped, to ensure the long-term sustainability of this brand, it is not only slogans and movements but also requires consensus and responsibility from many sides. This requires the government, industries, businesses and the community to participate in planning and implementing tourism development strategies.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram, the tourism industry, together with departments, agencies and units, is organizing many activities to raise awareness, spread messages about environmental protection and preserve cultural heritage values; towards a "Green - Clean - Bright" Hue. Recently, the Department of Tourism has coordinated with units to organize cycling activities for the environment with the theme "Ao Dai through the streets" in 2025.

The tourism industry will also continue to develop a number of routes and tours associated with green tourism, especially in heritage areas; open training courses, mobilize travel agencies and tour guides to implement the Plastic Reduction Code of Conduct (implemented by the Hue Project - Plastic Reduction City in Central Vietnam in collaboration with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the Department of Tourism). At the same time, apply digital technology achievements to the management and development of green tourism. The Department also recommends that tourism businesses in the area expand their network, cooperate closely with each other, and build professional, environmentally friendly tourism products.
