Student Forum on Biodiversity Conservation

(Dan Tri) - For the first time, the forum "Students with biodiversity conservation work" was held in Quang Nam with the participation of thousands of students.

On October 25, Quang Nam College coordinated with the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication ( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ) and the Center for Biodiversity Conservation Green Viet (GreenViet) to organize a Student forum on biodiversity conservation.

Biodiversity plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance and stabilizing the living environment.

Diverse ecosystems not only provide essential natural resources for human life, but also support sustainable economic development activities, from agriculture, forestry to ecotourism.

According to United Nations estimates, more than 40% of the global economy depends directly on biological resources.

However, the current state of biodiversity is facing many serious challenges. Globally, about 1 million species are at risk of extinction.

In Vietnam, the area of natural forests has decreased significantly and many rare species such as the red-shanked douc langur and the one-horned rhinoceros are or have disappeared.

The main causes are deforestation, environmental pollution, illegal hunting and the impact of climate change.

Biodiversity conservation is not only the responsibility of managers but also requires the cooperation of the community, especially the role of young people, in which students play an important role.

Speaking at the forum, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phuong Anh - Principal of Quang Nam College - said that students are not only a dynamic and creative force but also the future generation, who will play an important role in sustainable development.

"Equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills will help them raise awareness and take stronger actions in protecting nature and conserving biodiversity, which is an urgent requirement in the current context.

Thereby, creating opportunities for you to participate in international projects and start a business in the green economy. This is the way the young generation can directly contribute to the sustainable development of the country," Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Phuong Anh emphasized.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee - highly appreciated the initiative and responsibility of Quang Nam College in organizing the forum.

According to Mr. Tuan, the knowledge shared by experts at this forum will help students raise their awareness of environmental protection; equip them with the necessary skills to participate in conservation projects in the future.

"Biodiversity conservation is not only the responsibility of managers but also requires the cooperation of the community, especially the role of young people, in which students play an important role," said the Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee.

At the forum, experts presented papers on: Biodiversity conservation - Actions of young people; the role of the media in raising youth awareness of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation; experiences in connecting with students to carry out biodiversity conservation work...

In addition, the forum also launched the movement "Students - action to conserve biodiversity".
