According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh - Vice Principal of Lac Hong University, the 2025 high school graduation exam is assessed to have a higher level of differentiation and is more difficult than last year, especially in subjects such as Math and English, leading to a decrease in the expected score range, especially in the average - good score group.
Therefore, according to this expert, schools using high school exam scores as the main admission method, especially for stable majors, will tend to lower the admission score by about 1-2 points compared to 2024.
“However, for majors that have a combination of admission methods such as academic records, competency assessments or international certificates, the total admission score is expected to remain stable or only fluctuate slightly,” Mr. Quynh predicted.
MSc. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that this year's high school graduation exam scores decreased in many subjects such as English, Literature, Chemistry and especially Math.
Physics and History are two outstanding subjects with increasing scores, showing improvements in both test questions and learning methods.
Therefore, Mr. Son predicts that the benchmark scores of the majors with high benchmark scores last year will decrease this year. Meanwhile, the benchmark scores of the majors with low benchmark scores will increase.
"This year, the exam scores of all subjects have decreased, leading to a decrease in the benchmark scores for majors with high benchmark scores last year, such as marketing. The decrease is from 1 to 1.5 points. However, because the exam scores have decreased but the number of applications is higher, the decrease in scores will not be too much. On the contrary, majors with benchmark scores of 16 to 17 last year may increase this year," said Mr. Son.
According to Mr. Son, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade alone, the expected standard score will be about 0.5 points lower than last year for all groups. The standard score for majors that include Math will be about 0.5-1 point lower than last year.
At the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), this year the school will recruit 6 groups, an increase of 2 groups compared to 2024. Of which, Math and English are the 2 main subjects for recruitment, so the upcoming standard score is expected to decrease slightly compared to 2024.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of Training Department, said that for most majors with a benchmark score of 24 or higher last year, this year's benchmark score is likely to decrease significantly.
"This year, except for the Law major, which is unlikely to have a score reduction, many majors that enter schools based on high school graduation exam scores will have their benchmark scores reduced, even by 2-3 points," said Mr. Nhan.
According to Mr. Nhan, because the school recruits engineering and technology majors using combinations of Natural Sciences and English, the average scores for these subjects have decreased compared to last year, so the benchmark score is expected to decrease as well. "This year, the average score for Math is low, so some technology majors may decrease by 1-2 points," Mr. Nhan added.
