Investing 1,160 billion VND to complete Nui Vung tunnel on the North-South expressway in the East

Nui Vung Tunnel is in the preparation stage for exploitation.

The Minister of Construction has just signed a decision approving the investment policy for the Nui Vung tunnel completion project on the Eastern North-South expressway.

The Nui Vung tunnel completion investment project has a route length of about 5.4 km, including 2,287 km of tunnels and 3,093 km of bridges and access roads; the route follows the North-South expressway in the East, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao section currently in operation.

The project's starting point connects with the North-South expressway, Eastern section, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, at Km120+770 in Phuoc Ha commune, Khanh Hoa province; its end point connects with the North-South expressway, Eastern section, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, at Km126+150 in Tuy Phong commune, Lam Dong province.

The project will invest in expanding the roadbed, road surface, works on the route and Nui Vung tunnel (left branch) from 4 lanes to 6 lanes; technical standards are consistent with the technical standards of the current route in operation, with a design speed of 100 km/h.

The preliminary total investment of the Project is 1,160 billion VND, of which the central budget capital in 2025 is 229 billion VND; the capital source of the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 with a capital level of 931 billion VND.

The investor in the investment project preparation step is Project Management Board 85; the implementation location is Khanh Hoa province and Lam Dong province. The project implementation time is preparation from 2025, basically completed in 2026 and put into operation in 2027.

Nui Vung Tunnel is one of the construction items of the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao component project, phase 1, under the project to build some expressway sections on the North - South East route, phase 2017 - 2020.

Nui Vung Tunnel consists of 2 single tunnels, the distance between the centers of the two tunnels is 45 m, the cross-section of each tunnel is 14.05 m wide, clearance is 5 m; includes 3 motor vehicle lanes 11.25 m wide, safety strip 1.5 m wide, service road 1 m, wheel guard 0.3 m wide.

In phase 1, Nui Vung tunnel has invested in the complete construction of 1 tunnel (right branch) for exploitation with 2 opposite traffic lanes; dug and reinforced the remaining tunnel (left branch), completed the concrete construction of the tunnel shell to protect the structure and made a temporary road surface to be used as a rescue and escape tunnel, but has not invested in a surface drainage system or electromechanical system for exploitation.

The Cam Lam - Vinh Hao component project phase 1 is invested in the form of PPP, started on September 30, 2021, completed on March 30, 2024, the operating speed through Nui Vung is 90 km/h (in Nui Vung tunnel is 70 km/h).

The completion of Nui Vung tunnel will gradually complete the traffic infrastructure according to the approved planning scale; ensure traffic safety; improve operating capacity, reduce local congestion through Nui Vung tunnel, meet transportation needs on the route, while reducing freight and passenger transportation costs, promoting socio-economic development in the region.

The project also promotes the investment efficiency of the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway project and facilitates traffic on the Eastern North - South expressway.
