Imprints of heritage conservation work

Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet - Party Secretary, Director of My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board said that the Resolution of the 7th Party Congress, term 2020-2025, identified the conservation of relics as the core task of the unit, so the Party Committee has focused on many solutions, building programs and plans to effectively conserve heritage. In particular, focusing on promotion activities, connection, international cooperation as well as with domestic partners.

Notably, we can mention the project to preserve tower groups K, H, A and the project to preserve tower groups E, F under the cooperation program between the Vietnamese Government and the Indian Government, or the project to preserve tower group L in cooperation with the Italian Government; coordinating with the Institute of Archaeology to implement the project to excavate and reveal the zodiacal line of tower area K... Most of the projects were implemented on a large scale and effectively, especially preserving the integrity and authenticity of the heritage according to international conventions.

The My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board regularly implements many small projects in the relic site such as reinforcing the surrounding walls B, C, D; reinforcing the roof of tower B5, reinforcing towers B5, C3, B2; reinforcing against deterioration of tower D2, re-displaying towers D1, D2... All aim to stabilize the relic site sustainably, train specialized staff, including creating jobs for local people, and adding tourism products for visitors.

Speed up travel

Although tourism activities were affected and stagnant in the early stages of the term due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the situation returned to normal, visitors to My Son gradually recovered steadily.

Through promotional programs, promotions, links, and connections with travel agencies, the number of visitors has been growing steadily year by year. If in the period 2020 - 2022, the total number of visitors to My Son fluctuated around 100,000 visitors per year, by 2023 it had increased dramatically to 378,778, and in 2024 it was 445,949. Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet affirmed that during the past term, the Party Committee of the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board has basically completed all the set targets. The Party Committee has maintained the title of "clean and strong" for many consecutive years.

Notably, many achievements have been made in the fields of conservation, restoration, and scientific research, bringing relics from an unstable state to a stable and sustainable development stage. Many relic conservation and restoration projects have been implemented on a large scale and effectively.

In particular, the development of new products, investment in service infrastructure, human resource development, etc. have contributed to changing the appearance of the heritage site in a positive and spacious direction. The natural forest area is protected by a solid legal system; the restored natural resources have created the potential to develop new types of tourism, attracting visitors.

These are considered results demonstrating the timely direction of the Party Committee and the spirit of outstanding efforts of the collective of cadres, civil servants and employees of the My Son Management Board. In particular, identifying tourism development as a key and central task has created an important basis for the My Son Party Committee to issue many policies on infrastructure investment, service development, building new products, promoting digital transformation, and training human resources to develop and grow tourism remarkably.

“The Management Board has focused on investing in completing tourism infrastructure such as rebuilding the gateway road to the relic, the waiting room, the tram transfer house, the public sanitation system, internal roads, the green landscape system, the tram system serving visitors...

At the same time, maintain annual meetings and dialogues with tourism businesses, coordinate with organizations and individuals to link tours, exchange and provide destination information; stabilize and maintain existing products, build more experiential products, eco-tourism, check-in points; digital transformation products, night products, increase support for tourists, expand tourism space associated with heritage communities through support activities, tourism training, business connections..." - Mr. Khiet listed.
