Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, is perhaps the hardest working executive in the world , taking the technology company past the $4.2 trillion mark and becoming the first company in human history to achieve this record capitalization.
However, leading the company to the top has taken a significant toll on work-life balance. In fact, for Huang, every waking moment is dedicated to work.
“I work from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, seven days a week,” Huang said in an interview with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison.
According to the head of Nvidia, every moment of the day, even when he is not working, is dedicated to the company. "I sit and watch a movie, but I don't remember anything because I'm still thinking about work," Huang added.
In fact, Huang’s long hours aren’t the only ones he’s had to endure. Bloomberg reported that several former Nvidia employees said the company’s expectations forced them to work seven days a week, with work piling up until one or two in the morning.
Other employees, especially in engineering, work even longer hours. In meetings, the pressure can be so intense that it can lead to shouting matches. But with such high compensation, anonymous employees say they find it difficult to leave Nvidia.
Even Huang has admitted that he is not an easy boss. In an interview with 60 Minutes, the Nvidia CEO said that if you work at Nvidia, you should not expect it to be easy.
“If you want to do extraordinary things, it shouldn't be easy,” Huang said.
