Eighty years have passed, that historical milestone is not only present in books or commemorative ceremonies, but also resonates in music , where love for the Fatherland always finds new forms of expression.

If revolutionary songs were once the "mainstream music" in the 20th century, today, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day, the public is witnessing a wave of compositions and releases of vibrant music videos about the homeland and country.

From Nguyen Van Chung - Tung Duong to Hoang Bach, Trung Quan, Vo Ha Tram, DTAP, Le Viet Anh... each artist has their own way of telling stories and their own musical color. However, they all share a "red thread" that affirms national pride and ignites the desire to build the country in the future.

When patriotic music "changes clothes"

If traditional revolutionary music tends to be heroic and associated with direct lyrics, the new works on the occasion of September 2, 2025 have a youthful spirit and diverse genres, from EDM, pop, rock, symphonic to contemporary folk... exploited and applied flexibly by artists, making patriotic songs no longer confined to the "dry" stereotype.

The participation of young singers, who are familiar with the pop music market, shows the desire to bridge the gap between the spirit of revolutionary music, the epic spirit and contemporary life. The image of the Fatherland is not only the color of the flag, the image of the beloved leader, but also the pearl in the rice field, the long singing voice, the image of Saint Giong stretching himself to blend with the national symbol in the stature of the 21st century.

Many products have been upgraded by artists to become community music projects. In particular, the music production group DTAP, in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, launched a community music project called Made in Vietnam with the participation of three main singers: People's Artist Thanh Hoa, Truc Nhan and Phuong My Chi.

Singer Nguyen Vu is carrying out a long-term project called “Vietnam - The Era of Rising” with 34 songs praising each province after the merger, along with the MV Vietnam Green Journey using AI technology, bringing vivid and new images of Vietnamese landmarks…

It is at this point that we see an important change: patriotism in today's music is conveyed in a new aesthetic language, close to the youth but still maintaining a sacred spirit.

“Multi-voiced” of a topic

The music in the new composition series released on the occasion of National Day this year shows diversity in language and creativity, clearly affirming the trend of renewing the expression of patriotic themes in contemporary life.

If Vietnam - Proud to follow the future by Nguyen Van Chung and Tung Duong has a majestic color with a symphony orchestra combined with a strong pop-rock rhythm, then Words of Vietnam's heart by Hoang Bach in collaboration with two music producers SlimV - Suy Son, chooses the opposite approach, simple and pure, using a gentle ballad melody with pop sounds mixed with a symphony to evoke close emotions.

Notably, the combination of folk material and modern sound in Trung Quan's "Hat Ngoc Trang" (written by Keyri Phan - also the music producer for the product), where the melody with the sound of plain folk songs is delicately processed on the background of modern pop music. Through "Hat Ngoc Trang", Trung Quan used the image of "hat ngoc" - the symbol of rice, to compare with the image of the country, the image of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, thereby praising the vitality of Vietnam.

Vo Ha Tram attracted attention when she sang a long passage with the two words “Vietnam” in the MV Nguyen La Nguoi Viet Nam. This is a song with a structure almost like an epic, exploiting Northern lullabies, symphony orchestra, choir in a work of praise. It can be said that the work is created by the harmony between inner strength and solemnity, making the work a common “prayer” of the community.

At the other extreme, Made in Vietnam exploits fresh rhythms, catchy electronic sounds, and mixed rap, showing that patriotism can be expressed in a youthful way, suitable for the digital music tastes of Gen Z. This is proof that young artists can completely renew the national theme with their own voices.

Serious from music to image

In the series of songs released on the occasion of National Day, September 2nd this year, it is easy to see a colorful musical picture with different approaches but sharing the same patriotic spirit. In particular, the works this time not only "borrow" revolutionary or folk materials as a background, but also really experiment with arrangements, musical instruments, and vocal processing to make the patriotic message a natural part of the musical experience of today's audience. It is this diversity and boldness that helps music with the theme of homeland and country overcome old stereotypes, entering the contemporary artistic life with a new and vibrant look.

The lyrics of the new songs on the occasion of National Day September 2nd this year both inherit tradition and have many new ways of expression. Vietnam - Proudly Stepping Forward to the Future uses broad, general images such as "mountains and rivers", "future", "generation" to affirm national pride and the spirit of continuity.

Regarding images and MVs, the new songs released during this year's National Day season also show serious investment, with each product choosing a separate direction of expression to portray the spirit of patriotism.

There are products with grandiose images, while there are MVs that follow the direction of bright colors, Vietnamese cultural images skillfully combined with modern life (Made in Vietnam). There are MVs that exploit strong images, using light - fire - smoke effects (Giong Tu Do)... In general, the images in the MVs contribute to deepening the patriotic message in different ways, from solemn epics to youthful, modern ones.

A new autumn of patriotic music

The series of new works on the occasion of National Day September 2nd this year shows that patriotism in music is no longer an "old" field, only suitable for official ceremonies, but has become a diverse creative land, opening up many different approaches.

This opens up the possibility that patriotism will no longer be limited to holidays, but will become a part of everyday musical life.

It can be said that this year's National Day, music has written a new chapter, both continuing tradition and boldly innovating, so that patriotism can spread widely in the spiritual life of society. 80 years since the historic autumn, the songs praising the Fatherland still echo. And each generation of artists, in their own language, continues to write the patriotic epic so that music is always the bridge connecting the past with the future, the bridge between each person and the community, and between the individual and the Fatherland.
