After a decade of professional competition, Nguyen Cong Phuong has yet to touch the V-League championship trophy. If his career journey is heading towards the peak of the domestic championship, then the upcoming play-off match with Da Nang Club is the first ticket he needs to grasp.

Cong Phuong's regret

After the great success with U.19 Vietnam and teammates of the first course of HAGL Arsenal JMG Academy, Cong Phuong was promoted to the first team to compete in the V-League in the 2015 season. At that time, with a very young team, HAGL's goal was only to stay in the league. With the aspiration of a great player, Cong Phuong wanted to test himself in harsher environments and continuously played abroad on loan at clubs such as Mito Hollyhock (Japan), Incheon United (Korea), Sint-Truident (Belgium).

Cong Phuong is the most notable player in the play-off match between Binh Phuoc and Da Nang clubs.

It was not until 2021 that Cong Phuong, along with Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh, Van Toan... reached their peak. Under the guidance of coach Kiatisak Senamuang, HAGL played explosively and led the rankings until round 12. Unfortunately, the mountain town team could not win the championship when the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 epidemic. After that, Cong Phuong stayed at Pleiku Stadium for another season and then joined Yokohama FC (Japan). In the new land, things did not go smoothly when he was almost "redundant" for the club. In July 2024, the striker from Nghe An decided to return home and chose Binh Phuoc Club as his destination.

Rekindle the dream

At Binh Phuoc Club, Cong Phuong gradually made a strong comeback. He was given the responsibility of leading the attack, continuously scoring goals and being the spiritual support for the young players. Before the play-off match, he had 7 goals, ranking 2nd in the list of top scorers of the tournament. His call-up to the Vietnam national team shows that this striker is still very valuable.

If he helps Binh Phuoc FC overcome Da Nang to gain promotion to V-League, Cong Phuong will have the opportunity to play in an ambitious team. The owner Pham Huong Son announced that he will reward 10 billion VND if the team is promoted. That is just the beginning.

For now, this team has completed the recruitment of Minh Vuong from HAGL. Xuan Truong is likely to join the team. The list of new players will not stop there if they step up to the highest level of Vietnamese football. In the past, Binh Phuoc Club has also continuously worked with Buriram United, the number 1 team in Thailand at the moment, to learn how to play football.

With such a strong and systematic investment, Binh Phuoc Club will certainly not stop at playing in V-League and staying in the league but also aim for titles, which is also Cong Phuong's unfinished dream. And the match with Da Nang Club will be the beginning of the journey to realize that dream.
