Study hours close to exam date
TH, a 12th grade student at Ta Quang Buu High School ( Hanoi ) is still participating in the "final" exam preparation class for all 4 subjects of the high school graduation exam until June 24.
My exam preparation class consists of a group of students established by their parents and invited good teachers to teach the intensive period from the end of the school year. Regularly for nearly a month, every day I travel more than ten kilometers from my house in Hai Ba Trung District to Ha Dong District to study in the morning, have lunch at class, and continue "going to work" in the afternoon. In the evening, I practice the questions myself so that the teacher can correct them the next day and point out the mistakes to avoid when taking the real exam.

"During this stage, students mainly practice test questions, speed and test-taking skills. This is very important to avoid losing points unfairly," said TH.
At Tri Duc High School, due to the nature of being a boarding school, the school also takes care of the entire exam preparation, including the intensive period before the exam day.
The image of brightly lit classrooms every night has become familiar at this school for many years. Over the past months, after the regular morning and afternoon classes, during the students ' self-study hours every evening, teachers have also been assigned to stay behind to tutor and support students in "untangling" each difficult math problem and each paragraph.
The results of the high school graduation mock exam were announced last April. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training issued a warning about the risk of failing the high school graduation exam from low-scoring exams, with failing scores (1 or lower) concentrated in some schools that are "lowlands" in Hanoi'seducation . After this warning, schools focused on reviewing for students .
Ms. Vu Thi Nu, Vice Principal of Mai Hac De High School (Hanoi), said that right after the survey results were available, the school calculated the graduation exam scores and found that 1.36% of students were at risk of failing. The reason was that the input was not high, the learning awareness was not good, and students did not choose subjects that were suitable for their abilities. The school opened remedial classes for exam subjects to help students with weak academic performance.
Vice Principal of My Duc C High School (Hanoi), Mr. Dao Huy Nam, informed that during the city-wide quality assessment, the school "zoned" students at risk of failing the graduation exam to develop a review plan for these students with a roadmap, solutions and goals for each stage; supporting them in all aspects to help them be more confident until the exam date.
A representative of FPT Secondary and High School (Hanoi) shared that, immediately after the survey results were available, the school invited parents of students with scores below 4 to meet and discuss remedial plans to increase scores; 30-40% of students are required to review at school...
Ha Giang has been one of the localities with the lowest high school graduation results in the country in recent years. Therefore, improving the graduation rate and quality is always a top concern. At Meo Vac High School (Ha Giang), this year's exam preparation is divided into 2 phases, in which the phase from the beginning of June until close to the exam date is devoted to practicing test questions and improving test-taking skills. Classes with weak students are given extra study hours; students with good academic performance are called upon to support their friends during self-study hours...
Take care of food and transportation for students to the exam
At Tri Duc High School, students also stay in the dormitory during exam days, so the responsibility of preparing for each logistical step during exam days is very important.
Since the afternoon of June 23, the school has held a meeting to assign specific plans for transporting students to exam locations. Each transportation plan, list of students , accompanying teachers and staff, time, means of transport, etc., have all been carefully and thoroughly reviewed, to avoid any errors, no matter how small.
Meals for candidates are also prepared with a reasonable nutritional regimen, ensuring food safety and suitable for their physical condition during exam days.
Parents whose children study at Ta Quang Buu High School (Hanoi) said that before the exam day, the homeroom teacher had an online meeting with all parents and provided a list of students in the class who would take the exam at which exam locations; a list of teachers and contact phone numbers of each teacher will be present at each exam location so that parents and students can contact them if they need support. Teachers also requested that at each exam location, parents should send at least one person to be on duty during the exam to accompany the teacher and take care of and "support" the children.
Teachers and parents will have a list of students with their family phone numbers to contact when necessary, and prepare snacks, drinks and items allowed in the exam room to provide in time if any student forgets to bring them...
In mountainous provinces, this is even more important. Mr. Ngo Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Meo Vac District, said that the district has mobilized social resources, collecting 40 million VND to support drinking water, milk, school supplies such as pens, ink, compasses, rulers and meals for candidates during the exam.
Mass organizations also actively participate in the "Exam Support" program through activities such as supporting transportation, traffic control, keeping personal belongings, arranging drinking water and organizing meals for candidates.
The travel of candidates is organized scientifically and clearly. For students of Meo Vac High School, because they live near the school, their families are responsible for taking them to the exam location. For students of the Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center and Meo Vac Secondary - High School for Ethnic Minorities, they are arranged to eat and rest at school and have means of transportation to the exam location on time, ensuring safety.
In Hanoi, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the city's Department of Education and Training, said that after the results of the "mock exam" for high school graduation were released, the department organized a "Dien Hong conference" with high schools and vocational education and continuing education centers with low graduation rates to develop solutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
"The department's guiding spirit is to not leave any candidate behind, especially to pay attention to candidates with difficult circumstances, reminding them to take the exam on time.
I was very touched to know that there were schools and student volunteer teams that had made very thoughtful plans, from a team of 0-dong motorbike taxis to be ready to take candidates to the exam site; preparing bottles of water and cakes at the exam sites to promptly distribute for free to candidates before and after the exam; some teachers even prepared spare clothes so that if it rained and the students got wet when they got to the exam site, they would have clothes to change into immediately...", Mr. Cuong expressed.
