On this occasion, the organizing committee announced the professional council of the first Ho Chi Minh City Children's Book Award.

That is the 5-member council of the City Children's Book Award in phase 1, including Dr. Quach Thu Nguyet, writer Trinh Bich Ngan, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Truyen, poet Cao Xuan Son and poet Le Minh Quoc.

Want to improve the quality and quantity of children's books

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, said that this is the first children's book award in Ho Chi Minh City, launched from the 4th Ho Chi Minh City Children's Book Festival in 2023.

Over the year, the department has received attention and submissions from many authors, publishers and book distributors.

Today, the organizing committee officially announced the list of members of the professional council.

According to Mr. Thang: "The professional council consists of leading experts, prestigious literary critics, and experts in the field of books.

They are invited to join the council to conduct the work of evaluating works in a fair, objective and high-quality manner."

The Department will continue to advise leaders at all levels to continue to have policies and mechanisms, creating favorable conditions and an environment to nurture a team of authors writing books for children.

At the same time, it creates motivation to promote the improvement of the quality and quantity of books for children in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general.

Nurture a love of books

Talking about the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Children's Book Fair, Mr. Thang emphasized that this is the 5th time the book fair has been organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications. The book fair has become one of the familiar destinations during the summer.

This is a program dedicated to children, demonstrating the concern of city leaders, all levels and sectors for children in creating habits and improving reading culture.

This year's book fair with the theme "Summer fun with good books" continues to be invested in and organized with many new features.

Many useful activities, with good and meaningful books selected and introduced to readers, meeting the reading needs of children and parents, took place throughout 10 days at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street (from May 31 to June 9).

During this time, there were nearly 100 programs taking place, including 59 programs at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street (an increase of 50% compared to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Book Festival in 2023), nearly 30 programs at Thu Duc Book Street, introducing more than 40,000 books of diverse genres and rich content.

Many experiential activities such as virtual reality glasses system with scientific and technical knowledge content, book library;

Talk shows and book introductions by participating units; Drum and trumpet performances by schools in the city.

For the first time, AI robots were brought into the festival space to serve and support readers. This is a new feature to create conditions for children to access applications of artificial intelligence, arousing passion for science and technology in young people.

In addition, there are also programs and forums on developing reading culture for children and teenagers.

The forums will exchange and discuss creative and suitable solutions to meet reading needs.

Share methods to build skills and use effectively to manage supporting devices in learning and entertainment for comprehensive development in the current context of digital transformation.

During the opening ceremony, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the organizing committee also presented 15 bookcases to schools in 5 suburban districts worth 500 million VND, along with 1,000 free children's books for the children.
