Having just returned home after a long day of making a living by scraping resin, Mr. Le Duc Tuan (born in 1995) - Phuong Nha's uncle - got to work again, taking care of his poor niece. "In 2018, when she was only a few months old, her parents divorced.
My sister, Le Thi T. (born in 1989), had to take her nephew to live with her maternal family. During the days living at her mother's house, although her health was poor, she still tried to make a living to take care of her young child. But then in early 2023, the complications of diabetes became more severe, my sister discovered that she had stomach cancer, so her decline accelerated. After only a few months of fighting the disease, my sister breathed her last," Mr. Le Duc Tuan sadly shared.
After her mother passed away, Phuong Nha lived on the care of her grandmother and relatives. But then pain followed pain, in March 2025, her grandmother passed away from a serious illness, she became more and more lost and helpless.
Phuong Nha's father is also constantly sick and has to rely on his family's care. I am not married and my job is not stable, but I try to take care of my granddaughter's education. I just hope to always be healthy so that I can earn a living and fulfill my promise to my sister to take care of Phuong Nha's education until she grows up, Le Duc Tuan shared.
Currently, Mr. Tuan has to struggle to make a living to take care of his niece and another sister who has had epilepsy since childhood and cannot make a living. "My family's economy mainly depends on 3 sao of rice fields and the exploitation of pine resin.
In the dry season, I can earn more than 200,000 VND/day from exploiting pine resin, but in the rainy season, I mostly stay at home. I do whatever I can to plant trees, weed, or do odd jobs, but my income is very unstable. Many times, when my sister's illness became serious and she had to be hospitalized, I had to ask my family for help and borrow money everywhere," Tuan confided, his eyes unable to hide his sadness.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Sen Ngu Commune, Vo Danh Thuan, said: "Le Duc Tuan's family is one of the most disadvantaged households in the commune. Local authorities regularly visit, encourage and hope that organizations, units and philanthropists will continue to join hands to help Le Duc Tuan's family overcome difficulties and improve their lives."
The new school year 2025-2026 is about to start, Mr. Tuan is working even harder to save up to buy his niece new books and clothes so that Phuong Nha can confidently go to school with her friends.
After a long day of hard work, Tuan returned home when the night had fallen, covering all the roads. Unlike many of his peers who often go back and forth to date to plan their future, Tuan started doing housework, taking care of his sister and his little niece; willing to take all the disadvantages upon himself, hoping that the lives of his sister and his little niece would be less difficult. That journey will still be full of hardships, ups and downs and will need the help of many organizations, individuals, and philanthropists...
