Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club, along with the teams in the top 7 clubs with the highest achievements in the 2024/25 AFC Women's Club season, including Melbourne City Club (Australia), Suwon FC Women Club (Korea), Tokyo Verdy Beleza Club (Japan), defending champion Wuhan Jiangda Women (China) and Bam Khatoon Club (Iran), will not participate in the preliminary round.
The above teams, along with an undetermined representative from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will be the teams participating in the 2025/26 AFC Women's Club Championship from the group stage along with the five best teams in the preliminary round.
The 2025/26 season marks a significant expansion as the number of clubs participating in the tournament increases from 21 (in the first season) to 26 teams, of which 19 clubs will start from the Preliminary Round.
Five clubs representing each country are participating in the continental competition for the first time: Cambodia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Guam, the Kyrgyz Republic and Mongolia.
At the preliminary round draw ceremony held on the afternoon of July 3, 19 teams were divided into 5 groups, including 4 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams.
The preliminary round matches will take place in a centralized tournament format from August 23 to 31, with the 5 teams with the best results qualifying for the Group Stage.
Following the conclusion of the preliminary round, a draw will be held in September 2025 for the 12 clubs that have qualified for the 2025/26 AFC Women's Club Championship group stage, which is expected to kick off in November.
