Experts point out the best bath water temperature for health

Bathing is a familiar daily habit, but few people realize that water temperature can greatly affect health.

Depending on your body condition and specific goals, choosing hot, cold or warm water all bring different benefits, according to the health site Verywell Health .

However, Ms. Jennifer Steinhoff, a medical expert in the US, recommends using warm water between 36 and 41 degrees Celsius to ensure hygiene and safety for the skin and circulatory system.

When sick should take a warm bath

When the body is sick, especially when having a fever, warm water is considered the best choice. Bathing or soaking in water of about 37 to 40 degrees Celsius will help the body relax, improve sleep and support the recovery process.

Many people have the habit of taking cold showers or ice baths to quickly reduce fever. However, this method can be counterproductive. The body will shiver to warm itself, causing the temperature to rise even higher and putting more pressure on the weakened immune system.

When sunburned

For those with sunburn, cool water will help soothe the burning sensation on the skin. This is the result of an inflammatory reaction caused by UV damage. Taking a hot bath in this condition will irritate the skin more, prolong the recovery time and can cause peeling and pain.

For skin care

Healthy skin depends heavily on a natural moisture barrier, primarily protective oils, on the skin's surface.

When bathing with water that is too hot, this layer of oil is easily washed away, causing the skin to become dry, flaky, and can aggravate conditions such as atopic dermatitis and eczema. Meanwhile, cold water does not have much effect on this natural protective layer.

Cold showers can even temporarily tighten pores and reduce inflammation by constricting blood vessels.

For shiny healthy hair

Not only skin, hair also needs protection from excessive heat. Hair has a protective structure that retains moisture similar to skin.

Frequent hot showers can strip hair of its natural moisture, leaving it dry, brittle and dull.

Therefore, experts recommend washing your hair with cool to lukewarm water, just enough to clean while still protecting the hair's moisture barrier.

To relieve muscle pain

Soaking in cold water or ice after exercise can provide many benefits such as reducing muscle pain, reducing stiffness, promoting recovery and limiting muscle damage.

This therapy helps reduce blood levels of enzymes and lactic acid - two substances that often increase when muscles are damaged by high-intensity exercise.

When you have a headache

For those who suffer from tension headaches, warm water can be an effective relief.

Warm temperatures help the body relax, soothe stiff muscle groups and improve blood circulation.

Warm baths are considered by many to be a simple method to help relieve pain and prevent recurrence.

Medical experts recommend that the appropriate water temperature for bathing should range from 36 to 41 degrees Celsius. This is a safe temperature range, helping the body feel comfortable while still protecting the skin, hair and circulatory system.
