On August 14, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee officially issued the planning framework and schedule for the 2025-2026 school year for preschool education, general education and continuing education in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is responsible for monitoring and directing all levels and sectors to strictly implement the 2025-2026 school year schedule; deciding to let students take time off from school when there is inclement weather or natural disasters; arranging for students to take make-up classes; and arranging time off for teachers during the school year.

According to the regulations of the City People's Committee, holidays and Tet are regulated by the Labor Code and guiding documents during the year; if a holiday falls on a weekend, it will be compensated on the next working day. School principals proactively develop appropriate educational plans for their units in accordance with regulations.
Teachers' annual leave is taken during the summer vacation or can be arranged alternately at other times of the year to suit the specific characteristics and schedule of the school year.
After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will be the locality with the largest education and training sector in the country. In the 2025-2026 school year, the city is expected to have nearly 2.6 million students, about 3,500 schools and 110,000 teachers at all levels.
