On the evening of June 26, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the shortlist of the national women's team down to 23 players. The three eliminated names are Nguyen Thi Kim Yen, Ho Thi Thanh Thao and Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi.
Among them, the fact that Nam Mi cannot be named is noteworthy. She is a Vietnamese-American player who grew up in the school football environment in Canada and the US, and played for the Canadian U15 and U17 women's teams.
When she returned to Vietnam at the end of May, Nam Mi impressed with her thick physique and ability to play football with speed and strength. However, Mi had many difficulties in adapting to the weather and the ability to integrate into the playing style of the Vietnamese women's team.
The Vietnamese women's team also did not include striker Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha from the beginning because she did not recover from injury in time. The 23 names playing in the 2026 Asian Women's Championship qualifiers are all familiar names who have accompanied coach Mai Duc Chung in the recent Asian Cup, World Cup and SEA Games campaigns.
Among them, Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Quach Thu Em and Khong Thi Hang are the 3 goalkeepers. Hoang Thi Loan, Tran Thi Duyen and Chuong Thi Kieu are the prominent names in the defense.
In midfield, Ngan Thi Van Su, Thai Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy are veteran faces. In the forward line, Huynh Nhu and Pham Hai Yen are the leading scorers of the Vietnamese women's team.
In this list, only striker Ngoc Minh Chuyen is the rare young factor who has affirmed his position and remained on the shortlist of coach Mai Duc Chung.
