Central localities urgently respond to storm No. 5

(Chinhphu.vn) - Provinces and cities in the Central region are urgently deploying response work for storm No. 5 - a storm forecast to be of strong intensity, highly likely to make landfall directly, causing strong winds, rough seas and heavy rain in the Central region.

Quang Tri urgently and resolutely responds to storm No. 5

On August 23, the Civil Defense Command of Quang Tri province held an urgent meeting to deploy response to storm No. 5.

Information at the meeting said that in the next 24 to 48 hours, storm No. 1 will move in a West-Northwest direction and is likely to strengthen and directly affect Quang Tri.

In response to storm No. 5 and floods, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and localities have issued directives, calling on boats to take shelter, evacuating tourists from Con Co island to the mainland, arranging checkpoints and warning signs at flooded and landslide areas; directing the implementation of measures to ensure the safety of lakes and dams, and protect agricultural and aquatic production to reduce damage.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam requested members of the Command Board to directly follow the area, direct on-site, not to be confused or passive; Border Guards and coastal localities urgently call on ships to enter safe anchorages, strictly control going out to sea.

Mr. Hoang Nam requested that mountainous communes review areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, and deep flooding, prepare evacuation plans, supplies, and backup vehicles; and ensure safety for students when the new school year begins. The Department of Construction, the Project Management Board, and contractors must take measures to protect works, especially essential infrastructure works, and promptly remedy landslides and flooding incidents.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment ensures the safety of the dyke system, reservoirs, agricultural production areas, and aquaculture; directs units constructing dykes, embankments, and dams to strictly implement reinforcement measures and respond to emergencies. The Department of Industry and Trade and hydropower reservoir management units inspect and operate safely, proactively develop plans for regulating and releasing floods under control; ensure the storage of necessities in areas at risk of isolation. The health sector prepares medicines, disinfectants, and mobile medical plans, ready to support when requested.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested all units and localities to strictly implement the regime of quick reporting, smooth, accurate and timely information. Each level, each sector, each locality needs to uphold responsibility, take urgent and drastic actions to absolutely protect the safety of the people and minimize the damage caused by storm No. 5.

Hue organizes to call on ships to take shelter before 7:00 p.m. on August 23.

Today (August 23), the Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee issued a telegram to deploy response work to storm No. 5. Due to the influence of storm No. 5's circulation, from August 24 to 27, on the mainland of Hue City, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with the risk of flash floods, landslides and flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas, and urban areas.

Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City requested departments, branches, sectors and People's Committees of communes and wards to closely monitor the developments of storms, rains and floods, promptly direct and deploy response work according to the "four on-site" motto, not to be passive or surprised to ensure safety of life and minimize property damage for people.

The city's Border Guard and Coastal Station have stepped up notifications and guidance for vessels and boats still operating at sea, not to enter the storm area, and to leave the dangerous area; and have organized calls for vessels to enter safe shelters before 7 p.m. on August 23.

Armed forces stationed in the area reviewed response plans, proactively organized and deployed forces and vehicles to be ready to support localities in responding to storms, evacuating people, conducting rescue operations, and having plans to support people in harvesting summer-autumn rice, following the motto "green house is better than ripe field".

The Department of Agriculture and Environment directs and urges localities to deploy work to ensure the safety of irrigation dams, especially key dams, to prevent unexpected incidents, to inspect and review plans to ensure the safety of aquaculture ponds, cages, storm shelters, livestock facilities, and plans to protect the Summer-Autumn crop area.

People's Committees of communes and wards deploy response work to storms and heavy rains, resolutely review and evacuate people in dangerous places, especially coastal areas at risk of storm surges, steep slopes at risk of landslides during heavy rains, flash floods, and inundations...

Da Nang reviews and prepares to evacuate people from dangerous areas

In Da Nang, the Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee also issued a telegram deploying measures to respond to storm No. 5.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested agencies, units, communes, wards, and special zones to proactively review and deploy measures to respond to storm No. 5 according to the "4 on-site" motto; proactively evacuate people from dangerous areas to ensure safety of people's lives and limit damage to people's property.

Relevant units proactively deploy work to ensure safety of people, vehicles, and property, especially for tourist destinations, aquaculture, fishing, and constructions at sea, islands, coastal areas, rivers, streams, hills, mountains, mineral exploitation, etc.

The City Border Guard Command calls on ships to urgently move out of the danger zone, go ashore or find safe shelter; based on the storm's developments, proactively decide to ban fishing boats, transport ships, and tourist boats from the sea.
