Nghe An A 40 kg black carp, 40 cm in belly diameter, more than one meter long was pulled up from Khe La dam, Tan Ky district by four anglers.

On the evening of June 15, Mr. Le Khanh Hoa , 29 years old, residing in Thai Hoa town, went fishing at Khe La dam, Phu Son commune, Tan Ky district. Feeling the rod shaking strongly, he pulled it up but could not. "The fish was too big, three other anglers and I had to join forces, after several dozen minutes we were able to bring it to shore," Mr. Hoa said.

Before that, Mr. Hoa's group had been fishing at the dam for six days without catching any fish. The group was still freezing the fish and had not sold them, even though many people had asked to buy them.

Khe La Dam is 54 hectares wide, with the deepest point being 20 meters, and serves irrigation for hundreds of hectares of rice in Tan Ky district. The government is allowing a household to bid to raise fish in cages at the dam and open a recreational fishing service.

Black carp, scientifically known as Mylopharyngodon piceus , belongs to the carp family, can be 1.5 m long and weigh 60 kg. They eat snails and mollusks in rivers, ponds and lakes. The price of black carp is usually three times more expensive than white carp, the large type is about 150,000 VND/kg.
