Minister To Lam receives Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam

On the afternoon of April 15, 2024, in Hanoi, General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security , received Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Camen Cano de Lasala to pay his respects and begin his term of office.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam congratulated Ambassador Camen Cano de Lasala on her tenure in Vietnam at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the “Strategic Partnership towards the Future” (2009 - 2024); wished the Ambassador a successful tenure, fulfilling her assigned tasks, contributing to further promoting the good traditional relations between Vietnam and Spain in general, as well as between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and relevant Spanish agencies in particular.

Minister To Lam emphasized that over the past time, the relationship between Vietnam and Spain has had positive and comprehensive developments in all areas. Along with that, the relationship between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Spanish law enforcement agencies has achieved many positive results in cooperation areas such as crime prevention and control, drug use, high-tech, terrorism, fire prevention and fighting, and rescue. The two sides have signed many legal documents such as the "Extradition Agreement", "Agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons", etc.

To promote cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Spanish law enforcement agencies in the coming time, Minister To Lam suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in the field of preventing and combating transnational crimes, non-traditional security issues such as epidemics, climate change, food security; preventing money laundering; strengthening cooperation in the fields of cyber security, aviation security, personal data protection; sharing information and experience in preventing and combating terrorism...

Overview of the reception.

Negotiate and reach an agreement to sign the “Agreement between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of the Interior of Spain on cooperation in the fight against crime” to complete the legal basis to promote cooperation in the fight against crime between the two sides. Continue to coordinate in sharing information, exchanging views and positions, consulting on international and regional issues of mutual concern; closely coordinate and support each other in multilateral forums, including the United Nations (UN) and ASEAN - EU cooperation frameworks.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam also proposed that Spain promote cooperation in information exchange in the field of immigration; support training and capacity building for specialized forces of the Vietnamese Public Security in preventing high-tech crimes, drug crimes, organized crimes of illegal immigration and migration, child abuse crimes, preventing and combating terrorism, participating in UN peacekeeping activities as well as the Spanish language.

Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala sincerely thanked Minister To Lam for taking the time to meet her, agreed with Minister To Lam's opinions and affirmed that in her new position, she will make every effort to contribute to the development of cooperation between Spain and Vietnam in general, and between Spanish law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in particular.
