Realizing the potential and strengths of the locality with large forest land resources, since 2019, Ms. Lo Thi Hoai, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Dong Cam Village, Hoanh Mo Commune, boldly converted part of her family's cinnamon garden land to develop a comprehensive livestock farm model. At that time, Ms. Hoai received active support from the local government through training courses and technical guidance. The products of the family farm have had good quality and stable output.
Ms. Lo Thi Hoai shared: “Currently, my family's barns always maintain over 1,000 poultry of various types and dozens of pigs. Every year, after deducting expenses, we earn about 200-250 million VND, which is a stable and sustainable source of income for the family. Not only does it help improve the household economy , the model is also a place where many people come to visit, learn from experiences, contributing to spreading new production thinking in the locality."
Along with traditional models, Binh Lieu people are increasingly proactive in seeking new development directions suitable to actual conditions. With support and encouragement from local Party committees, authorities and Farmers' Associations, the peach-cheeked bamboo rat breeding model of Mr. Hoang Duc Hai in Dong Cam village, Hoanh Mo commune is a typical example.
Having previously failed with small-scale farming models due to the impact of the epidemic, Mr. Hoang Duc Hai decided to change direction. With local support, he went to Son La province to learn the model of raising peach-cheeked bamboo rats - a rodent with high economic value. After more than a year of perseverance, from the initial 20 pairs of bamboo rats, he has expanded to about 100. Mr. Hoang Duc Hai said: “Each pair of breeding bamboo rats can be sold for 4-4.5 million VND, and meat bamboo rats cost from 500,000-600,000 VND/kg. The first batch of sales brought my family nearly 100 million VND, not to mention the next batch that is growing well and is ready to be sold. Thanks to its ease of raising, low cost, and the ability to take advantage of available food sources such as bamboo, corn, potatoes, cassava, etc., the bamboo rat farming model is opening up a new direction with great potential, attracting the attention of many households and can be expanded in the near future.”
Not only focusing on production development, Binh Lieu district also identifies investment in construction and upgrading of infrastructure systems, especially rural transport, as a key factor to promote sustainable socio-economic development, especially in remote areas. From 2020 to now, the district has upgraded and completed over 250km of rural roads, ensuring connectivity to all villages and hamlets. Key routes such as National Highway 18C leading to the scenic terraced fields of Luc Hon, Khe Lanh - Vo Ngai route... are being implemented synchronously, contributing to strongly improving the ability to trade, transport goods, serve tourism development and improve people's lives. When the transport infrastructure is gradually completed, prominent destinations such as Luc Hon terraced fields, Khe Van waterfall, Cao Xiem peak, known as the "roof of Quang Ninh", or the border patrol route covered with colorful reeds have become attractive tourist destinations.
At the same time, social security work is also focused on. Currently, 62 houses for poor and near-poor households are being urgently completed, providing comfortable homes, contributing to helping people in the highlands settle down and feel secure in developing their economy.
With synchronous solutions, the average income per capita of Binh Lieu district in 2024 will reach over 75 million VND. This is an impressive growth rate, clearly reflecting the effectiveness in management and the efforts of the local government and people. In 2025, the district aims to increase the average income per capita to 100 million VND/person/year.
Effective production models, extended inter-village roads, and new houses under construction… are clear evidence of the positive transformation of Binh Lieu today. From a mountainous district with many difficulties, Binh Lieu is gradually rising strongly, effectively implementing the goal of sustainable development and improving people's lives.
