Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, affirmed that he will invest heavily to help Binh Duong Club regain its former image as "Vietnamese Chelsea" and create a long-term youth foundation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung shared about the investment orientation for the 2025-2026 season: "Last year was the most difficult year, the heaviest in the past 3 years. We want to develop the young force, but to do that it takes time. This year, the team continues to strengthen the young force. People used to say "Vietnamese Chelsea" before, we also boldly try again this season, buying many stars to support the current young force.
Investing in young players from the beginning is very difficult. We have gone through 3 difficult years and it is getting more and more difficult. I hope that in 2025-2026, Binh Duong team will have better progress, contributing to the future of Ho Chi Minh City."
Binh Duong Club used to be a leading force in Vietnamese football, with a star-studded cast and an impressive collection of titles: 4 V.League championships (2007, 2008, 2014, 2015), 4 National Cups (2007, 2008, 2015, 2018) and 2 National Super Cups.
However, in the last three seasons, the team from the land of Thu has clearly declined, constantly struggling in the relegation race. In the 2024-2025 season, despite a large investment and high expectations, Binh Duong only finished in 8th place and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the National Cup after losing to SLNA.
Binh Duong will regain the image of "Vietnamese Chelsea" next season
Mr. Hung hopes that the team will make positive progress in the new season and continue to contribute to football in the Southern region, especially the new Ho Chi Minh City, after the merger.
Regarding the possibility of changing the club's name after the merger, he affirmed: "The team will definitely not change its name. Even if the province merges into Ho Chi Minh City, it is not necessary for every team to be named Ho Chi Minh City. Binh Duong Club is a very dear name and we will preserve that."
