In January 2025, Ms. VA returned to the center for a health check-up for the second embryo transfer. Before placing the embryo, the doctors assessed her health indicators and the quality of the embryos stored at the center were all guaranteed. Right in the first embryo transfer after 11 years, Ms. VA became pregnant successfully. This special pregnancy was directly monitored by Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital.
Professor Nguyen Duy Anh said that the Central Obstetrics Hospital has successfully taken an embryo that had been stored for 11 years in a freezer, thawed it, and transferred it into the mother's uterus.
With the VA mother, the doctors used only one embryo and successfully transferred it. The mother was worried that the embryo might be damaged, while creating a new embryo would be very difficult due to the mother's age. But in reality, the embryos stored properly in the Center's freezer still maintained their quality after more than a decade.
According to the Central Obstetrics Hospital, the National Center for Assisted Reproduction currently stores hundreds of thousands of embryos using advanced technology and machinery that meet international standards, ensuring safety, helping mothers, even at an older age, to get pregnant with embryos stored when they were young. The survival rate of embryos after thawing is 99 - 100%.
According to reproductive health experts, in recent years, in addition to the need to freeze embryos and sperm in infertility treatment, many women who need to freeze eggs (ovums) to help maintain childbearing are cases of pathology, during the treatment process can affect fertility, ovarian failure. There are also unmarried women who want to store eggs to ensure the ability to have children in case of late marriage; or married women who still request to store eggs or embryos (artificially fertilized by eggs and sperm of the couple) to help them still be able to get pregnant, give birth to healthy children if they have children late, delay giving birth due to work conditions...
Women should have children before 35 years old
Faced with the reality that many young couples, especially in big cities, choose to have fewer children or delay having children, an expert from the Ministry of Health added that women should give birth before the age of 35 to have optimal health conditions for pregnancy and childbirth. Mothers who give birth at an older age need to be closely monitored by specialists.
