According to the results of 38% of the votes counted after the primary election in South Carolina on February 25, Mr. Trump won nearly 60% of the votes, corresponding to receiving the support of 38 out of 50 state delegates. Meanwhile, his opponent, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, has not won the support of any delegates.

With this result, Mr. Trump is sure to win in South Carolina, Ms. Haley's home state. Mr. Trump is currently the leading presidential candidate of the Republican Party, while Ms. Haley is the most notable opponent capable of blocking Mr. Trump's path to receiving the party's nomination.

So far, after the primaries in several states, Mr. Trump has received 101 votes of support from delegates, while Ms. Haley has received 17 votes. To be nominated by the Republican Party to run for president in November, a candidate needs 1,215 votes of delegates. Mr. Trump has given a victory speech in South Carolina; thanked his family, and praised some congressmen .

Trump had previously won Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and the Virgin Islands. The former president’s latest victory could increase pressure on Haley, who served as Trump’s representative to the United Nations and as governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017.

Haley has said she will stay in the race until at least the March 5 primaries (also known as Super Tuesday), arguing that the charges against Trump will hamper his chances of winning the presidential election against incumbent President Joe Biden later this year.
