World and Vietnam Newspaper 'strategically joins hands' with The Colombo Times - a new highlight in international press cooperation

On the afternoon of June 27, the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between The World and Vietnam Newspaper and The Colombo Times took place online. Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang attended at the Hanoi bridge.

Also attending the ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters were Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Tien, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Press and Information Department Doan Khac Viet. At the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka, there were also Vice President of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Dr. Rizvie Salih and Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam.

RepresentingThe World and Vietnam Newspaper were Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Truong Son, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Hoang Diem Hanh and Deputy Editor-in-Chief Ho Thi Van. Representing The Colombo Times were Editor-in-Chief Mohammed Rasoodeen and reporters.

Taking place in the proud and excited atmosphere of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), the event is a practical activity, part of a series of activities towards the milestone of 55 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka (July 21, 1970 - July 21, 2025). This is also the first time that The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper has signed a cooperation agreement with a press agency in the South Asian region, demonstrating a new step forward in the direction of promoting international press cooperation of the Newspaper in recent times.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of The Gioi va Viet Nam Newspaper Nguyen Truong Son expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Sri Lanka for attending the event, demonstrating the interest of the leaders of the two countries in cooperation in the field of information and communication. The signing ceremony has a "double" meaning: the 55-year journey of many achievements of the Vietnam-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations and the glorious mark of a century of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press, according to Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Truong Son, opening a new chapter in the sustainable relationship between the two press agencies.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will promote the exchange of articles, experiences and the organization of joint events in the future, contributing to enhancing understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.

Mr. Mohammed Rasoodeen, Editor-in-Chief of The Colombo Times, was delighted with the milestone of establishing a cooperative relationship with Vietnam's leading foreign newspaper. He affirmed that he would closely promote the content of the memorandum of understanding, promoting updated news on the situation in Vietnam as well as the Vietnam-Sri Lanka relationship in The Colombo Times .

Editor-in-Chief Mohammed Rasoodeen said this would contribute significantly to raising awareness and the spirit of exchange between the people of the two countries.

Taking place shortly after the State visit to Vietnam by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka (May 4-6) and the working visit to Sri Lanka by the Communist Party of Vietnam delegation (June 2-3), the signing of the MoU demonstrates the determination of The Gioi Va Viet Nam Newspaper and The Colombo Times in elevating the level of press and media cooperation between the two countries. This milestone will open up new directions for future cooperation such as information exchange, sharing of professional experience, co-organizing seminars, thematic talks, etc.

Congratulating the success of the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang assessed that this was a concrete step to realize the cooperation commitments between the two countries' senior leaders. The ceremony also took place at the right time, when press agencies around the world are promoting global cooperation to bring diverse and accurate information to the public.

This MOU will bring mutual benefits to both media agencies and lay a solid foundation for information exchange in the future. Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her belief that the two press agencies still have much potential to exploit, contributing to bringing bilateral relations to new heights, contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

From the Colombo bridge, Vice President of the Sri Lankan Parliament Rizvie Salih highly appreciated the good relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka after 55 years of establishment and development. He emphasized that the signing of the MoU by The Gioi and Vietnam Newspaper and The Colombo Times will contribute to promoting cooperation in press - media, culture and people-to-people exchange between the two countries, continuing the tradition of always supporting and helping each other in the Vietnam-Sri Lanka relationship.

In an interview with The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper , Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Tien said that the cooperation of the two press agencies will be an important communication channel contributing to promoting Vietnam-Sri Lanka cooperation and spreading the message of peace and sustainable development. He expected that the cooperation agreement would soon be concretized with practical action programs, and affirmed that this is a new step that needs to be replicated with many international partners in the future.

The MoU signing ceremony between The World and Vietnam Newspaper and The Colombo Times is not only a symbolic milestone of the commitment towards the future in further deepening the Vietnam-Sri Lanka relationship, but also demonstrates the spirit of readiness of The World and Vietnam Newspaper to exchange and cooperate with international friends, especially in the field of journalism and media.
