100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism: President Ho Chi Minh's enlightening vision

June 21, 2025 is an important milestone, marking the 100th anniversary of the formation and development of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

On this occasion, Granma newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of Cuba - published an article by author Oscar Sánchez Serra, affirming that President Ho Chi Minh 's revolutionary journalism vision still holds true in every newsroom today.

The article by author Oscar Sánchez Serra emphasized that on June 21, 1925, Uncle Ho founded the Thanh Nien newspaper, giving birth to a press with a profound revolutionary vision.

Cuban journalists commented that Thanh Nien newspaper was born not only with a strategy of constantly innovating journalistic methods, but also with a dual mission: fighting for independence, then unifying the country in a resilient war against invaders.

Like Cuban national hero José Martí with the Cuban newspaper Patria (Fatherland), President Ho Chi Minh clearly understood that the press was not simply a channel of information but also an essential tool to raise political awareness, strengthen revolutionary ideology and organize the people's mass forces in the struggle for national liberation.

Both the Patria and Thanh Nien newspapers stuck to the truth, resolutely defending revolutionary processes against the media's monopoly and distortion of information, which often served as the basis for policies of coercion, invasion or even coups.

The Vietnamese revolutionary press steadfastly followed every development on the battlefield, recording every battle and every victory of the army and people against French colonialism and later American imperialism. Hundreds of reporters sacrificed their blood to convey the truth.

Revolutionary journalism played an extremely important role in exposing the manipulation of the Western media and was decisive in helping international public opinion understand the righteousness of Vietnam's struggle for national unification and sovereignty .

One hundred years later, the Vietnamese revolutionary press remains a stronghold defending socialist ideals and resolutely resisting all attempts to distort reality, especially in the face of the rise of fake news.

President Ho Chi Minh's vision remains evident in the continued attention that the Communist Party of Vietnam has paid to journalism - a journalism that proudly continues the revolutionary tradition from its early days.

The Vietnamese revolutionary press plays an important role in protecting the values that the Vietnamese people shed their blood for to gain independence and develop the country today. Above all, the core goal of the Vietnamese revolutionary press is to build trust and promote a sustainable development environment for the country.

This shows that the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of that journalism, is always present, as if he were sitting right next to the reporters and editors in every newsroom.

President Ho Chi Minh left behind an extremely valuable journalistic legacy, in which he emphasized that revolutionary journalists must first of all have ideals, patriotism, professional ethics and always be devoted to the people.

People consider the journalist's pen a sharp weapon, each article a revolutionary manifesto to mobilize the masses to unite and fight. The press must be the honest voice of the people, accurately reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the masses.

He affirmed that truth is the power and reason for the existence of journalism; if journalism does not respect the truth, it cannot educate or guide the masses. He also advised: writing must be realistic, speaking with evidence, reporting with evidence, if it is not clear, then do not write.

Criticism must have the effect of building, healing and saving people, not to degrade or defame. Finally, he concluded: Journalism is politics, but it is politics based on ethics, an ethics that takes the people as the root./.
