In an interview with VNA reporters in Buenos Aires on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), journalist Fiorda emphasized: “In the course of history, the Vietnamese press has played a key role in the struggle for national independence. Although in 1925, the Communist Party of Vietnam had not yet been officially established, there were political organizations and mass bases, many of which operated secretly to disseminate information. It was these press structures that contributed to the formation and dissemination of a common discourse on the aspirations for independence, freedom and preservation of cultural values of the Vietnamese people.”
The Argentine journalist recalled that during the French colonial period, French was the official language in schools, newspapers were mainly published in French and Vietnamese culture was marginalized or even banned. In that context, the press associated with the revolutionary movement became a bridge between revolutionary leaders and the masses (including farmers, workers, and laborers), helping to unify the struggle strategy and build the solidarity of the Vietnamese people. He commented: "This is one of the most successful experiences in combining political propaganda, popularizing revolutionary ideals and mobilizing the masses against the colonial regime".
Referring to the role of the Vietnamese foreign press in the current period, Mr. Fiorda highly appreciated the international media mission, emphasizing that the Vietnamese press today is performing an essential role. According to him, the Vietnamese press has two missions: bringing Vietnam closer to the world and helping the world get closer to Vietnam. Also according to journalist Fiorda, in the current period, the international press as well as the Vietnamese media agencies specializing in foreign affairs play a very important role in introducing and promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam to friends around the world.
Talking about the challenges that journalism is currently facing with the development of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), Mr. Fiorda gave a positive perspective when he said that AI will not replace journalists but will provide useful tools. In academia and research, if applied properly, AI will be a powerful assistant. In the field of journalism, AI cannot replace humans but will change the way journalism and communication are done. Mr. Fiorda expressed his belief that if we learn and use AI properly, the quality of journalism will be further improved.
