Bale could be a boss in England. |
According to The Telegraph , the Tottenham legend will be the head of the American investment group in Plymouth. Negotiations are currently underway between Plymouth and the investment group, which includes members of the Storch family.
The Bale-led investment group is reportedly discussing a bid to take full control of Home Park. Plymouth chairman Simon Hallett has been looking for new funding for the club for at least a year.
Although Bale has no historical connection to the club, which was relegated from the Championship last season, his involvement in the deal reflects a new trend among US investment groups, who are teaming up with high-profile stars to add appeal when buying English football clubs.
Modric previously bought Swansea shortly after NFL star Tom Brady became co-owner of Birmingham City. Golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas also invested in Leeds United ahead of their return to the Premier League. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were also at the forefront of the trend when they bought Wrexham for £1m in 2021.
Bale, who earned £600,000 a week at Real Madrid, has also built a formidable business career. In 2017, he opened a bar called 'Elevens' in Cardiff and followed that success up with a golf pub called Par 59. Bale has also opened a Par 59 in Bristol and invested heavily in Penderyn Distillery, despite not being a teetotaller himself.
Bale has also invested in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL golf tournament, and has signed advertising contracts with major brands such as Adidas, Playstation and BMW throughout his career. He also recently surprised everyone by appearing as a commentator for the Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United.
