Following National Highway 3 from Bac Kan city towards Phu Thong town, we saw many sections of soil and rocks spilling onto the road, trees falling, and thick mud covering the road, making it difficult for vehicles to move. Landslides were recorded in communes such as Tan Tu, Cam Giang, Nguyen Phuc, Vu Muon, etc. In some places, soil from the positive slope collapsed, blocking the residential road.
Many rice and corn fields along Highway 3 were submerged in floodwaters during the harvest season. The green and yellow rice fields were deeply submerged, and the water was still flowing at noon that day. Many people could only stand by helplessly as their fields were swept away by the floodwaters.

Mr. Nong Thanh Tuyen in Phu Thong town said: “About 500 square meters of rice that my family was about to harvest was submerged in floodwater. The rice fell, sand and soil flowed in, dry trees and rotten wood were also swept in by the current, covering the field. A few months ago, there was a drought, we had to pump buckets of water to irrigate the fields, now we don’t know if we can still harvest.”

Not only the fields and gardens, but also the houses near the slope were heavily affected. Ms. Trieu Thi Kieu in Na Hai street, Phu Thong town, recounted: “Last night it rained heavily, it was past 11 pm and it still hadn’t stopped, my whole family stayed up all night. At 1 am, the rocks and soil behind the house collapsed and fell on the fence, the electric wires were broken, water and mud flooded in and damaged the refrigerator and washing machine. Luckily everyone ran out in time so no one was hurt.” The next morning, relatives and people in the neighborhood came to help clean up. But there was still a lot of mud and soil, so Ms. Kieu’s whole family had to work hard to clean it up.
According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Bach Thong district, by noon on June 19, the district recorded 43 houses with slope collapses, of which 1 house was flooded; more than 105 hectares of rice, corn and other crops were flooded and damaged; about 150 ducks were swept away. Many roads were eroded, such as National Highway 3 (through Ban Lanh village, Tan Tu commune), Provincial Road 258 in the K98 area, and inter-village routes in Cam Giang, Vu Muon, etc.
In Sy Binh commune, there are 11 households at high risk of landslides. The locality has mobilized 2 households to urgently evacuate to the village cultural house; 1 household to a relative's house; 8 households continue to be monitored.
Along with that, some agency headquarters and public works were also affected such as: The District Medical Center had a wall section about 40m long collapsed. The District Agricultural Service Center had water flooding into the office. The Dong Quang Village Cultural House (Nguyen Phuc Commune) had its foundation eroded, at risk of collapsing.

On the morning of June 19, the District People's Committee sent working groups to inspect the affected communes.

Mr. Ha Kim Oanh, Chairman of Bach Thong District People's Committee said: "In the immediate future, the district will direct the commune to inspect areas at high risk of landslides, propagate and mobilize affected households to overcome and evacuate to safe places. Coordinate with the Department of Transport, the Provincial Military Command and related units to handle and clear land and trees at landslide areas to ensure smooth traffic. At the same time, continue to count the damage to have a basis for arranging support resources and overcoming natural disasters according to regulations". People are advised not to go to the stream to collect firewood or fish during high tide to avoid unfortunate accidents.

The sudden flood has left the people of Bach Thong unprepared. However, with the cooperation of the government and the community, the recovery work is being carried out vigorously. Hopefully, in the coming days, the weather will be favorable so that people can soon overcome the difficulties and stabilize their lives.
