European football experts said the 0-10 result showed an "unequal" level, with a huge gap between the teams participating in the 2025 Club World Cup.
They question why an amateur team like Auckland City is allowed to participate in the tournament for the world's top clubs.
"This is one of the biggest imbalances you'll see in professional football," writes BBC Sport 's Matthew Howarth. "Auckland were probably lucky not to lose by a bigger margin, with Bayern Munich having 31 shots, 17 of which were on target. The gulf in class between Bayern and Auckland will likely raise further questions about the new format."
Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Daily Mail (UK), Auckland is the only amateur team participating in the tournament with 32 teams. They are ranked... 5074 in the world, according to the latest power rankings by Opta, while Bayern Munich is ranked 6th.

Interestingly, in the latest Opta rankings, the reigning V-League 2024-2025 champion, Nam Dinh Club, is ranked 1040. That means Nam Dinh is 4,034 places higher than Auckland!
Two other Vietnamese teams, Hanoi FC ranked 1166 and Hanoi Police ranked 1265, are also ranked much higher than Auckland.
