Alcaraz wins, Medvedev unexpectedly fails at Laver Cup 2024

After the first day of competition at the 2024 Laver Cup, the European team and the world team tied 2-2. Medvedev faced Tiafoe in the singles match on the second day of competition. The Russian player played confidently, he quickly broke Tiafoe's game and won easily with a score of 6-3 in the first set.

However, in set 2, Medvedev made many mistakes, thereby losing to Tiafoe with a score of 4-6. In the decisive set 3, Tiafoe was on a high and played very well to win 10-5 (according to the rules of set 3, there will be a special tie-break series touching 10), thereby defeating Medvedev with a final score of 2-1.

After Medvedev lost to Tiafoe and left Team Europe trailing Team World 4-2, Carlos Alcaraz went into the match against Ben Shelton with a must-win mission. In the first set, the Spaniard had a break-point in game 7 before winning 6-4.

In the second set, Shelton lost the break in the first serve game. Despite his best efforts, the American player was still helpless and lost 4-6. Winning 2-0 (the set score was 6-4, 6-4), Alcaraz helped the European team gain 2 points and tie the score at 4-4.

In the third singles match, Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in two sets with the scores of 6-4, 6-4. In the doubles match, Ben Shelton - Alejandro Tabilo defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas - Casper Ruud with the score of 6-1, 6-2. After two days of competition, the world team temporarily leads the European team with the total score of 8-4.

The 2024 Laver Cup will take place in Germany (September 20-22) in a format of three singles matches and one doubles match per day. Points will be awarded on each day: one point on the first day, two points on the second day and three points on the final day. The first team to reach 13 points wins.
