According to initial information, on the afternoon of July 7, three boys went out to play at Ea Kar Lake. The youngest, a 3-year-old boy, sat on the shore, while the other two (both 7 years old) went swimming in the lake. When the boys did not return in the evening, the family searched for them and found the youngest boy sitting alone on the shore with the clothes and sandals of the two older boys.

The incident was quickly reported to the authorities. The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police of Dak Lak Province coordinated with local police and residents to search. Because Ea Kar Lake has a large area (over 200 hectares) and the incident occurred at night, rescue work encountered many difficulties.
Rescuers used specialized equipment and oxygen tanks to dive to find the victims. At around 10:50 p.m. the same day, the bodies of the two children were found and handed over to their families for funeral arrangements.
