Ms. Phuong said that previously, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province authorized the Department of Agriculture and Environment to receive 130 tons of original Khang Dan 18 rice seeds provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to distribute to localities to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 1.

Immediately after receiving the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the officers and employees of the provincial agricultural sector worked hard day and night to promptly provide rice seeds to the people. By 2:00 p.m. on June 18, all farmers in the province had received rice seeds to re-sow in time.

According to Ms. Phuong, Khang Dan 18 is a short-term rice variety. If the weather is favorable, the growing period in the summer-autumn crop is about 80 days, and can be harvested before September 15, within the safe threshold, avoiding floods.

“The most worrying thing is that in Hai Lang district, there are still many rice fields submerged in water. If the water does not recede in the next 3 days and the crops are not re-sown in time, it is very likely that by harvest time, they will fall into an unsafe threshold according to the crop calendar, and may be damaged by floods. Due to the urgent time, from the night of June 17 to the morning of June 18, agricultural officials and employees and local authorities simultaneously distributed rice seeds to farmers,” said Ms. Phuong.

According to Ms. Phuong, in the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the whole province planted over 22,000 hectares, reaching over 98% of the plan. Due to the impact of storm No. 1, from the evening of June 10 to June 13, 2025, there was heavy rain over a large area in the province, combined with flood water from the upper reaches of the rivers rising and pouring down strongly, causing 21,400 hectares of rice in the seedling - tillering stage and 3,800 hectares of crops (cassava, peanuts, vegetables, beans, etc.) in the stem, leaf, tuber development stage, etc. to be deeply submerged in water, many areas had to be replanted, with an estimated loss of more than 458 billion VND.

It is known that in addition to the flooded and damaged rice area, the whole province has more than 624 hectares of aquaculture damaged (including 265.52 hectares of shrimp farming, 352.96 hectares of fish farming and 6 hectares of clam farming). In addition, more than 5,200 poultry and some livestock died; many farms and livestock areas were flooded.

Currently, the flood water has receded, but the livestock and aquaculture environment in the province still has a high risk of disease outbreaks, especially aquaculture ponds, areas, barns, and livestock farms.

To treat the livestock and aquaculture environment to prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has requested the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for support of 4,000 liters of Benkocid chemicals and 40 tons of Chlorine chemicals.
