(Chinhphu.vn) - The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and cities; the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on coordinating the implementation of measures to prevent sugar smuggling.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade received documents from the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association and a number of sugar production and consumption enterprises in Vietnam reflecting on the situation of smuggling of sugar products in a number of localities, especially in the southwestern and central provinces bordering Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

In order to strengthen the prevention of sugar smuggling, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requests the People's Committees of provinces/cities to continue directing departments, branches, functional forces, and commune-level People's Committees to continue strictly implementing the plans and directives of the Government, the Prime Minister , the National Steering Committee 389, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the work of inspecting, controlling, preventing, and strictly handling acts of illegal trading, transportation, and storage of smuggled sugar of unknown origin; considering this a task that needs to be performed regularly and continuously.

For provinces sharing borders with Laos and Cambodia such as Quang Tri, Tay Ninh, An Giang , Dong Thap, Dong Nai, the People's Committee is requested to request the police, border guards, and local market management forces to strengthen management by area, share information, proactively develop and deploy peak periods to inspect and handle the transportation and trading of smuggled sugar from the border into the inland.

For provinces and cities with high demand for sugar such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang... the People's Committee of the province/city is requested to request the functional forces to regularly inspect the traceability and labeling of sugar products, inspect sugar decanting and packaging facilities, rock sugar production facilities; and sugar auction purchasing facilities to prevent the use of documents to legalize smuggled sugar products.

Innovate propaganda and dissemination of laws in various forms so that people can recognize the harmful effects of smuggling and trade fraud. At the same time, propagate to organizations and individuals not to assist smugglers, participate in denouncing crimes, and join hands with functional forces in this field.

Strengthening inspection, control, political and ideological education, tightening discipline among cadres and civil servants tasked with combating smuggling and trade fraud.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasizes the implementation of the viewpoint that there are no "forbidden zones" in the fight against smuggling and trade fraud and clearly defines the responsibilities of leaders. Timely handle officials who show signs of covering up, assisting, tolerating or allowing smuggling and trade fraud to occur in a complicated, serious and prolonged manner in the assigned management area.
