Criminal handling of organizations and individuals who seriously violate IUU fishing

(QNgTV)- In order to strengthen the fight against illegal fishing (IUU) and soon remove the EC's "Yellow Card" warning, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Official Dispatch No. 122 requesting ministries, branches and localities to urgently and synchronously deploy drastic solutions to prevent violations.

The Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors and coastal localities to focus on directing and prioritizing resources for functional forces to effectively carry out the task of combating IUU fishing, meeting the EC's recommendations; at the same time, protecting fishing vessels and fishermen operating legally in border waters.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Public Security to urgently investigate and collect evidence to criminally prosecute organizations and individuals who seriously violate IUU. Local police will strengthen reconnaissance, apply technical measures, and use VNeID to monitor and prevent from shore the acts of organizing and colluding to bring fishing vessels to foreign waters; and remove and disable VMS equipment.

The Ministry of Public Security shall preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the Ministry of National Defense and localities to deploy declaration of procedures for exit and entry at border control stations on VNeID; expand the application of monitoring, warning and handling of violations on this platform.

These drastic instructions are aimed at ending the situation of Vietnamese fishing vessels violating foreign waters, demonstrating the Government's determination to remove the EC "Yellow Card", maintain national prestige and protect sustainable livelihoods for coastal fishermen.
