Fisheries unions make a difference in combating IUU fishing

(QNgTV) - Quang Ngai province currently has 13 fishing unions with over 6,500 members. In recent years, with the participation of the entire political system, fishing unions in Quang Ngai have become a solid support, accompanying fishermen in all fishing grounds. Through propaganda and mobilization work, the unions have made an important contribution to the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Binh Chau Fisheries Union, Dong Son Commune currently has 750 members who are captains and boat owners. In recent times, the Union has closely coordinated with local authorities and functional forces to promote propaganda and mobilization so that fishermen strictly comply with State regulations on marine exploitation, especially regulations on combating IUU fishing.

Thanks to the persistent support and propaganda of the Union, fishermen's awareness has changed significantly. People clearly understand the harmful effects of IUU fishing and strictly follow the regulations when going offshore. Up to now, in the Binh Chau Fisheries Union, there have been no more fishing vessels violating foreign waters, proving the practical effectiveness of propaganda and mobilization work.

 

Through the activities of the union, people's awareness of law compliance is enhanced. The union also becomes an important bridge between state management agencies and fishermen, promptly conveying new information and regulations, helping people feel secure in their fishing activities, exploiting the sea legally and sustainably.

Ships continue to set sail, carrying with them the desire for prosperity and faith in the sea. Accompanying each voyage, fishing unions become a solid support, giving fishermen more strength to both make a living at sea and join hands to preserve the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland. That is also how Quang Ngai shows its determination to develop sustainable fisheries, associated with efforts to remove the EC's "Yellow Card" and affirm its position in traditional fishing grounds.
